I'LL BET THAT IF YOU ASK A HUNDRED PEOPLE TO EXPLAIN TO YOU WHAT PROPITIATION MEANS, NOT MANY WILL KNOW THE ANSWER. DO YOU? I DIDN'T KNOW UNTIL I LOOKED IT UP. I KNEW IT WAS IN CONNECTION WITH JESUS GOING TO THE CROSS AND THAT HE IS THE PROPITIATION FOR THE SINS OF THE WORLD, BECAUSE THE BIBLE TELL US THAT, BUT I DIDN'T REALLY KNOW EXACTLY WHAT THE WORD MEANT.
WELL, HERE IT IS FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO WERE LIKE ME. PROPITIATION - 1. The act of appeasing wrath and conciliating the favor of an offended person. 2. In theology, the atonement or atoning sacrifice offered to God to assuage his wrath and render him propitious to sinners. Christ is the propitiation for the sins of men. JESUS REALLY DID APPEASE THE WRATH BETWEEN GOD AND MAN.
AS IT SAYS IN LUKE 2:13-14 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men. IT IS NOT TALKING HERE ABOUT PEACE BEING AMONG MEN ON EARTH BECAUSE JESUS SAID IN MATTHEW 10:34 "Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword." THE PEACE THAT JESUS BROUGHT WAS BETWEEN GOD AND MAN. BECAUSE OF JESUS WE CAN NOW GO BOLDLY TO THE THROWN OF GOD AND TALK DIRECTLY TO HIM. BEFORE THIS WE COULD NOT HAVE DONE THAT BECAUSE OF OUR SINS, BUT JESUS TOOK THOSE SINS AWAY. NOW GOD SEES US AS JESUS IS, SINLESS. (1 JOHN 4:17 Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.)
SO, IF YOU HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR PEACE BETWEEN YOU AND SOMEONE YOU ARE HAVING TROUBLE WITH JUST REMEMBER THIS. IT IS UP TO YOU TO HAVE THAT PEACE. JESUS TELLS US IN JOHN 14:27 "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." WE HAVE THE PEACE OF JESUS AND WE CAN ACCEPT IT OR REJECT IT. WITH HIS PEACE, YOUR HEART WILL BE AT PEACE AND NOT AFRAID. IT IS ALL UP TO US.
