PRAYER IS THE ANSWER FOR ALL OF OUR PROBLEMS
It is impossible for us who were created for eternity ever to find anything in this world to satisfy our souls. The Bible says that if the Lord is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. (Psalm 23:1). But if He is not our Shepherd, we are in trouble. We will be in want. Sometime, somewhere, someday we will pay the price and be in want.
The prodigal son's body began to be in want, his mind was in want, and his spirit was in want. Why? Because of the slavery of sin. He was a slave: "whoever commits sin is a slave of sin "(John 8:34).
There are many of us who think we are free, but we are slaves. The devil says,"Do this," and we do it. Sin says,"Do this," and we do it. We are slaves to that habit that we have, to that lust that we have. We are slaves. We can't break the habit. We are bound by chains."
Our soul, or our spirit, is that part of us that lives inside our body--in which we can know God. We are searching, questioning, hungering, thirsting for something. We don't know what it is. We want God! Without God we will go on until we reach the point of judgment and destruction.
This prodigal son was returning, and there was his father waiting for him. That is a picture of the heavenly Father waiting for us, loving us, wanting us to come and return to Him." The son said,"Father, I'm not worthy to be called your son, I want to be a servant" (Luke 15:21).

good discussion here, thanks for posting it. I know I have to fight temptation both from Satan, and even my flesh, which must be rebuked, and if need be repented of. Only God can cleanse and free us from sin. As it says a bit later in John 8 whom Jesus sets free is indeed free
(Joh 8:36) So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
