“For Your Blood” is a Billups Family Affair"
Although each has developed an independent career in gospel music, Angela “Missy” Billups and her son Ernest Billups combine their talents with the Tribe of Levi on “For Your Blood.” The song, written by Ernest, is now available on ALL digital music platforms.
This melodic canticle of gratitude to Jesus for making the ultimate sacrifice on behalf of humanity is given a fiery reading by the mother-son team. Like a pastor to a congregant, a spirited Ernest encourages Missy as she delivers ever emotional lines of thanksgiving.
“When Ernest wrote ‘For Your Blood,’” Missy explained, “it was to commemorate the Lenten season. He had no idea that God was going to use that song during a pandemic to minister to thousands of people. In the midst of losing family members, friends, and loved ones, we continue to keep our hands lifted and proclaim, "Thank you, God for covering us with your blood.’”
Hannah Livingston, a member of Tribe of Levi since its formation, joins the mother-son duo to dial up the temperature further during the song’s explosive vamp. “’For Your Blood’ is a classic worship song, and Ernest Billups is an artist who is always true to his craft,” Livingston said. “It is always an honor to work and sing with Ernest, and we all love Angela ‘Missy’ Billups. What an awesome experience and a pleasure to be a part of this phenomenal project.”
Marcus Billups, Missy’s son and Ernest’s brother, directed the companion video. Marcus made his directorial debut last year on the music video for Ernest and the Tribe of Levi’s “God is Fly.”
Though its message is particularly relevant during this perilous time, “For Your Blood” is ready-made for the Lenten season and indeed all year long, because devotion needs no season.
