You Took My Place
David Erickson
F-85
Verse One
I have lived a long and productive life, sometimes doing it alone.
But later in difficult years I realized that I wasn't on my own.
Through the hurt and the pain of my life you were there to take my place.
You suffered, you died, to cover my sorrows and surround me with grace.
Chorus
You took my place. You took all of the pain for me.
I was lost and undone, yet not I am able to see.
It was a long time coming but now I have complete victory.
Hallelujah, you, lord, took my place and now I am free.
Verse Two
Daily we all go through things that we don't really understand.
And your word tells us to be strong and to take a new stand.
For you suffered the pain of the cross paying a great cost.
My Lord, you left the throne in heaven. You took my place; it was your loss.
Bridge
You took my place. It was supposed to be me.
You gave it all, you took my place and now I can see.
