SYMBOL OF THE CROSS
The cross was a symbol—of torture, shame and pain
And on a cross such as this—my saviour was slain
But His blood changed that cross–-to a sign of victory
Now this symbol of torture–means hope for you and me
CHORUS
On that symbol of defeat—He won our victory
On that cross of the lost—He set all sinners free
In the tomb of the dead—gained life eternity
The symbol of fear and dread—now means comfort to me
The cross once meant evil—where wicket men would die
Would strike fear into man’s heart–as they would walk by
Now it means salvation—with victory over sin
A lighthouse for all sinners—to guide and lead us in
REPEAT CHORUS
