Here's a Christmas song I put together about ten years ago while I was working at a Christian radio station. The idea I had was just to take story in Luke chapter two and make a song out of it. I wasn't all that thrilled with it when I was done, but I dusted it off a couple of years ago, and recorded it again with my friend, Carl, playing harmonica. I liked it better that time, so I thought I'd share it with all of you. Here are the words:

And it came to pass in those days,
That there went out a decree,
That all the world should pay a tax,
Including Joseph and his wife Mary.

And Joseph went up from Galilee
Out of the city of Nazareth
Unto Judeah where the city of David was,
Which is the town of Bethlehem.

Now Mary was still a virgin,
And she was ready to deliver a child,
And even though there wasn't any room in the inn,
She brought forth her first born Son.

And there was in the same country
Shepherds out in the field
Keeping watch over their flocks by night
And the angel of the Lord appeared.

And the angel said unto them,
"Fear not, I have some very good news!
I bring you tidings of great joy,
Which shall be to all people.

For unto you is born this day,
In the city of David,
A Savior which is Christ the Lord,
And this shall be a sign.

You shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes,
Lying in a manger."
And suddenly there was a heavenly host,
Praising God, and saying glory to God!

And on earth good will toward men.
