Proximity is Key - Seek God first then everything else will fall in place!
In Your light we see light. Psalm 36:9 (NKJV)
An important spiritual principle is in play here in Psalm 36:9. It tells us that in the light of God's presence, we are able to see light. We all have a tendency to focus on God's benefits and blessings instead of Him. It's just a part of our natural bent to want His direction, His wisdom, and His guidance-more than we want Him.
However, notice what we see in this Psalm. We see that it's only when we're in God's presence, when we're in His light, that we're able to see light. To put it another way, it's our proximity to the Lord that determines the extent to which we can enjoy and experience His benefits and blessings.
The lesson to be learned is that we need to focus on the Lord first. When we do, all of His benefits and blessings will be there for our enjoyment. When we're in close communion with the Light of the World, we won't lack for illumination. When we're in close proximity with the Prince of Peace, our peace won't be in short supply. The same goes for the God of All Comfort, the Father of Mercies, and the God of all Grace. Comfort, mercy, and grace will be in abundance when we're by God's side.
God is always greater than the benefits that come from belonging to Him. We need to make sure we're not chasing after these things without first pursuing His presence. When we pursue God, all we will ever need will be added to our lives (Mathew 6:33).
Lord, train our hearts to seek You before seeking Your blessings. Keep us focused on You and mindful of the fact that it's only in Your presence that we're able to receive all You desire to give us.
Think about it…
What does this passage reveal to me about God?
What does this passage reveal to me about myself?
Based on this, what changes do I need to make?
What is my prayer for today?
Blessings Forever!
