I am a preacher's kid and grew up thinking that I always had to masquerade as the perfect Christian. This people-pleasing eventually turned into a bad habit and after many, many years of trying to live up to everybody's expectations, I hit the bottom. In 2002 I was diagnosed with depression, and God very tenderly and lovingly showed me that I had been working for all the wrong reasons. He is a God of hope and unconditional love. I am happy to report that I am now a recovering perfectionist!
