Psalms 137 :4 How shall we sing the Lord's song in a strange land ?If your a singer or musician , you can really relate to this , but it applies to any thing that relates to being out of your element . It was in the time that Israel was taken captive by the Babylonians, and they wanted them to sing songs of Zion. In other words , they were saying , hey church people , "sing them songs" to us that we heard about .
Have you ever tried singing or playing music when everything seems to be coming apart in your life ? This is what they were facing. How can you sing about victory , when your in bondage ? Their singing only reminded them of happier times , when they were not backslidden from their God. They were so depressed they hung their harps in the willow trees , as it were. God originally intended music to be for his Glory, and a time of celebration. Being in bondage or captivity certainly doesn't make one want to celebrate does it ? What ever the case may be , if we are in a situation where we do not belong , we are out of our element , and thing's are not going to be effective for our well being .
Has your song lost its joy ? Perhaps your singing it in a strange land. Return home and your joy will return .
