Who But God? - as sung by Jack Marti with Eric Davis on Mandolin

Category: Music
Duration: 00:03:37
Description:
This song by Wes King moved me deeply the first time I heard it in, I think it was, 1996. I have wanted to add it to my repertoire ever since, but it's almost beyond my ability to sing. I only hope I didn't mess it up too badly in this video. Considering the fact that Eric had only heard it once about a week before we did this, and only a few times just before we actually recorded it, he did quite well. If you haven't heard it, you really ought to listen to the original recording by Wes King, because it's really awesome. The only problem I have with Wes' recording, though, is that he uses a double negative in the first verse which makes it say the exact opposite of what I'm sure he meant. I took the liberty of correcting that error in this rendition. Blessings to all.

Who but God would send His Son to condescend
And make Himself the likes of a mere mortal man?
Who but God would not regard equality with God
A precious thing that must be held onto?
Who but God?
Who but God?
Who but God?

Only God would condescend for us,
And choose teh weakness of the cross.
He wept the tears that conquered sin,
That we might laugh with Him.

Who but He who knew no sin would make Himself
The very thing He knew He could not look upon?
Endure the cross, and scorn the shame, and choose
The very weak things of this world to overcome the strong?
Who but God?
Who but God?
Who but God?

Only God would send us His only Son,
Obedient to death, our spotless One.
Servant Savior so lowly now.
Soon every knee shall bow!

Who but God would send His Son to condescend
And make Himself the likes of a mere mortal man?
Who but God?
Who but God?
Who but God?
