                        Hearing the voice of God and Romans salvation teaching

This is an essay on hearing the voice of God which will to start show a couple of different scripture examples of hearing God’s voice. The first one I am led to use is the burning bush example in Exodus chapter 3, and I am using the first 8 verses. In this example God used a burning bush to get Moses’ attention and then spoke to him about the plight of the children of Israel and how Moses was to be used to deliver them.

(Exodus 3:1)  Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father in law, the priest of Midian: and he led the flock to the backside of the desert, and came to the mountain of God, even to Horeb.

(Exodus 3:2)  And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed.

(Exodus 3:3)  And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt.

(Exodus 3:4)  And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I.

(Exodus 3:5)  And he said, Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground.

(Exodus 3:6)  Moreover he said, I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God.

(Exodus 3:7)  And the LORD said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people which are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows;

(Exodus 3:8)  And I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land unto a good land and a large, unto a land flowing with milk and honey; unto the place of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites.

This conversation between God and Moses then goes on for about three chapters (through Exodus 5, approximately) but as it would turn out God would indeed use Moses to deliver Israel eventually from the Egyptians despite Moses resisting this calling to deliver Israel from Egypt initially. They would also eventually reach the Promised Land of Israel that is spoken of in verse 8 as well.

My other scriptural example for this essay is the one from 1 Kings Chapter 19 where Elijah sees all these manifestations including wind, fire and earthquakes but God is not in any of them but Elijah does hear the voice of God in His still, small voice instructing Elijah to anoint various successors including his own and two kings, one of Israel, the other of Syria.

(1 Kings 19:11)  And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake:

(1 Kings 19:12)  And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.

(1 Kings 19:13)  And it was so, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entering in of the cave. And, behold, there came a voice unto him, and said, What doest thou here, Elijah?

(1 Kings 19:14)  And he said, I have been very jealous for the LORD God of hosts: because the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.

(1 Kings 19:15)  And the LORD said unto him, Go, return on thy way to the wilderness of Damascus: and when thou comest, anoint Hazael to be king over Syria:

(1 Kings 19:16)  And Jehu the son of Nimshi shalt thou anoint to be king over Israel: and Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abelmeholah shalt thou anoint to be prophet in thy room.

In the above example in the bible, God speaks in a still small voice, which Elijah did hear but then Elijah only heeded one of the tasks that he was told to do by God- anointing Elisha his own successor. This still small voice is a very common method of how God will speak to us nowadays, and as a result it is a very easy one to miss, being still and small. This still small voice of God as a result can easily be drowned out by the competing voices of the world, our flesh, and Satan, who does not want us to hear God’s voice at all. To hear God’s voice in the best way possible we then need to turn down all of the distractions from the world and the competing voice of our flesh and Satan so we can hear what God wants us to do. Praying in tongues and worship help make God’s voice louder and so does worship. Fasting can help still the voices trying to drown out the competing voices especially that of our flesh, which sometimes can be really loud, demanding, persistent and hard to ignore often speaking louder and louder until being heeded.

God does have other means to communicate His words and wishes to His people. Sometimes He gives us feelings or unctions about things- both positive and peaceful, or he could take away our peace and make us uneasy about it, when he knows that the item is not good for us, when we are in danger, or in the following personal example rushing His will for my own life, and getting into something far too soon. In 2011 he did that when I thought I might go to Nepal as a part of an outreach team, but I felt such a strong lack of peace and uneasiness about going there on outreach that I did not go on that trip at that time, but instead went somewhere else alone. In hindsight, as explained above, I feel in hindsight I was too immature spiritually and as a result not ready to go there at that time to Nepal, and God let warned me about this and I heeded the warning. God’s voice can be through other people and even animals as what happened to Balaam in Numbers, when his donkey spoke out to him. God does speak to me when I read through the bible His spoken word and has used that to mold me. I love reading the bible, too. God speaks through inner feelings, thoughts, and dreams and visions as well as the still small voice.

God’s voice effects causes peace and to be still, reassures, enlightens, encourages, comforts, calms and convicts you when you hear it. Satan’s voice pretty much does the exact opposite, and has the opposite effect, worrying and rushing people into things ahead of their time, or causing undue focus on past events, hoping to bring condemnation. For example with Nepal it was NOT the right timing for me to go there in 2011 but I needed more maturity spiritual development to do such a mission trip. I don’t think the results would have been good had I not heeded God’s voice in that example.

I could write much about God’s voice in my life, how He directed me mostly by feelings and through His Holy Spirit through most of my Christian walk. I try to pray and seek Him several times per day, as led,and have made a practice of prayer and reading the bible, for I always want to hear from Him, seeing how that He is infinitely wiser than I am and only He can direct my steps. If I try and go out on my own the results usually are not good at all, and He chastised me afterward lovingly for trying to do it on my own, forgiving me for my stupidity when asked to, however if it would not have been for God’s mercy it could have been even worse for me.

Personally God has spoken to me by a good many of these ways, but mostly speaks to me through inner feeling through the Holy Spirit as well as that still small voice. He also has used other people as well to deliver messages one to one, also through sermons and prophecies in church and other places where I have been left to say this message has been intended for me. This already has happened a LOT this fall but also before. He also has set up and used circumstances to speak to me too, such as finding a brochure about New Life in my landlady’s car in the spring of 2010, which led me to go in 2010 for summer and remembering that experience was a big factor in bringing me here also in 2013, and also an email stating that the education is free plus the fact that the dress code was liberalized.

To conclude I hear God’s voice a good bit as it is something I do strive to do. Sometimes, being fleshly I can be and I know I have been fooled into hearing negative thoughts also of Satan and also my own flesh. There have been others who have spoken evil over me. God’s voice has blessed me. He has spoken over me concerning this essay too, giving me instructions of what to do with it, because  He wants me to also change it and use it for His purposes, for example to win souls.

The best thought I have been hearing from God and I have started to heard the message not long after I have been saved is that He has big things for me, and He has spoken that to me over and over again through the years from 2008 through the current time. I have seen a number good things and blessings over the past five years but I believe strongly that the big things that God has spoken have yet to occur, and He as told me that as well this day (10/30/13). It will be exciting to see what they are involving, only knows , for I think at least some of it may be trips overseas for missions and/or Israel for a pilgrimage but only He knows. He also has given me a very strong passion for the lost, as well, so the promise and the passion are probably related. I welcome and request all prayer for me on this promise and passion.

As you can see in the above essay God longs to communicate with people, and have a loving relationship with Him which is why He sent Jesus to the cross to die for our sins. I am now attaching a salvation teaching which will present the gospel of good news so you can have this wonderful love relationship with Jesus that I myself enjoy

The first group of scriptures is a statement of purpose to preach the gospel for as Paul states I am not ashamed of the gospel and this word is given so people are indeed without excuse before God

(Romans 1:14)  I am debtor both to the Greeks, and to the Barbarians; both to the wise, and to the unwise.

(Romans 1:15)  So, as much as in me is, I am ready to preach the gospel to you that are at Rome also.

(Romans 1:16)  For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

(Romans 1:17)  For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

(Romans 1:18)  For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;

(Romans 1:19)  Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.

(Romans 1:20)  For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

In Romans 3 9- 12 it states both  Jews and Gentiles are under sin and none have done right at all.

(Romans 3:9)  What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin;

(Romans 3:10)  As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:

(Romans 3:11)  There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.

(Romans 3:12)  They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

There is no difference here all have fallen short of God’s glory but all can be justified through Jesus, as stated in Romans 3 verses 21-27

(Romans 3:21)  But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets;

(Romans 3:22)  Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:

(Romans 3:23)  For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

(Romans 3:24)  Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:

(Romans 3:25)  Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;

(Romans 3:26)  To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.

(Romans 3:27)  Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith.

In these two passages in Romans chapter 5 Paul explains through the disobedience of one man all were made sinners but through the obedience of one man all were made righteous as Jesus did die for us while we were weak and yet sinners

(Romans 5:6)  For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.

(Romans 5:7)  For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die.

(Romans 5:8)  But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

(Romans 5:9)  Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.

(Romans 5:10)  For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.

(Romans 5:11)  And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.

(Romans 5:12)  Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

(Romans 5:19)  For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.

(Romans 5:20)  Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:

(Romans 5:21)  That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.

Now believers are slaves of righteousness and not sin, and also the wages of sin are death and the gift of God is life eternal through Jesus as explained in Romans 6

(Romans 6:20)  For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness.

(Romans 6:21)  What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death.

(Romans 6:22)  But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.

(Romans 6:23)  For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

This passage states how the word is near us and needs to be preached, too and also gives the instructions to be saved which are mainly to confess Jesus as Lord with your mouth and believe that God raised Him from the dead so that you will be saved.

(Romans 10:8)  But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;

(Romans 10:9)  That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

(Romans 10:10)  For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

(Romans 10:11)  For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.

(Romans 10:12)  For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.

(Romans 10:13)  For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

(Romans 10:14)  How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?

(Romans 10:15)  And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!

(Romans 10:16)  But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?

(Romans 10:17)  So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

In the first five verses of Romans chapter five state that we are now at peace with God, can develop patience through trails and also get the Holy Spirit

(Romans 5:1)  Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:

(Romans 5:2)  By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

(Romans 5:3)  And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;

(Romans 5:4)  And patience, experience; and experience, hope:

(Romans 5:5)  And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

In these two passages in Romans 8 it is stated there is no condemnation anymore and ask if God is with us who can be against us, and that nothing will separate the believer from the love of Christ

(Romans 8:1)  There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

(Romans 8:2)  For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.

(Romans 8:31)  What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?

(Romans 8:32)  He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?

(Romans 8:33)  Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth.

(Romans 8:34)  Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.

(Romans 8:35)  Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?

(Romans 8:36)  As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.

(Romans 8:37)  Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

(Romans 8:38)  For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,

(Romans 8:39)  Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Finally in Romans 12 we are now to present our bodies as a living sacrifice and are not to be conformed by the word but transformed by the renewing of our mind. We also are now all part of one body.

(Romans 12:1)  I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

(Romans 12:2)  And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

(Romans 12:3)  For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.

(Romans 12:4)  For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office:

(Romans 12:5)  So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another.

The message in the epistle of Romans  especially clearly explains the salvation thing from all being short of God’s glory but how God sent Jesus in love to take care of the sin problem so that we would have the gift of eternal life and not death as we all deserve too, and are the wages of sin. God does not any to die eternally but wants people to be saved, for relationship with the believer. God sent Jesus to die wanting this love relationship restored and Jesus complied for the same for us. This death of Jesus on the cross then atoned for our sins which had separated us from God, and now through the gift of God the relationship which God wanted with man can now be restored. There is nothing that can be compared with a relationship with God or nothing that can even come close. I am now including a prayer which will enable you to invite Jesus in your heart and begin this wonderful and incomparable relationship with God. Please pray this prayer with me

Heavenly Father I come to You in the Name of Jesus. I confess to You that I am a sinner and cannot save myself. I confess and repent of all of my sins and unrighteousness. Right now I confess with my mouth Jesus as the Lord of my life and believe in my heart that You, God did indeed raise Him from the dead. I thank You for cleansing and forgiving me of all of my sins and unrighteousness and for saving me. I thank You for sending Your Son to die in my place for my sins, and for the inexpressible gift of eternal life that I now claim through the death of Jesus on the cross. Thank You, Lord, again for saving me. In the Name of Jesus I pray Amen

God bless you and yours
