Ezekiel chapter 34 which is a highly prophetic message talking of bad and good shepherds/ church leaders, rebukes and chastens the bad ones while even prophesying Jesus, suggesting perhaps Him as the one shepherd God will send at the end- after all Jesus did call Himself the good shepherd in John 10
(Ezekiel 34:1) The word of the LORD came to me:
(Ezekiel 34:2) "Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel; prophesy, and say to them, even to the shepherds, Thus says the Lord GOD: Ah, shepherds of Israel who have been feeding yourselves! Should not shepherds feed the sheep?
(Ezekiel 34:3) You eat the fat, you clothe yourselves with the wool, you slaughter the fat ones, but you do not feed the sheep.
(Ezekiel 34:4) The weak you have not strengthened, the sick you have not healed, the injured you have not bound up, the strayed you have not brought back, the lost you have not sought, and with force and harshness you have ruled them.
(Ezekiel 34:5) So they were scattered, because there was no shepherd, and they became food for all the wild beasts.
(Ezekiel 34:6) My sheep were scattered; they wandered over all the mountains and on every high hill. My sheep were scattered over all the face of the earth, with none to search or seek for them.
(Ezekiel 34:7) "Therefore, you shepherds, hear the word of the LORD:
(Ezekiel 34:8) As I live, declares the Lord GOD, surely because my sheep have become a prey, and my sheep have become food for all the wild beasts, since there was no shepherd, and because my shepherds have not searched for my sheep, but the shepherds have fed themselves, and have not fed my sheep,
(Ezekiel 34:9) therefore, you shepherds, hear the word of the LORD:
(Ezekiel 34:10) Thus says the Lord GOD, Behold, I am against the shepherds, and I will require my sheep at their hand and put a stop to their feeding the sheep. No longer shall the shepherds feed themselves. I will rescue my sheep from their mouths, that they may not be food for them.
(Ezekiel 34:11) "For thus says the Lord GOD: Behold, I, I myself will search for my sheep and will seek them out.
(Ezekiel 34:12) As a shepherd seeks out his flock when he is among his sheep that have been scattered, so will I seek out my sheep, and I will rescue them from all places where they have been scattered on a day of clouds and thick darkness.
(Ezekiel 34:13) And I will bring them out from the peoples and gather them from the countries, and will bring them into their own land. And I will feed them on the mountains of Israel, by the ravines, and in all the inhabited places of the country.
(Ezekiel 34:14) I will feed them with good pasture, and on the mountain heights of Israel shall be their grazing land. There they shall lie down in good grazing land, and on rich pasture they shall feed on the mountains of Israel.
(Ezekiel 34:15) I myself will be the shepherd of my sheep, and I myself will make them lie down, declares the Lord GOD.
(Ezekiel 34:16) I will seek the lost, and I will bring back the strayed, and I will bind up the injured, and I will strengthen the weak, and the fat and the strong I will destroy. I will feed them in justice.
(Ezekiel 34:17) "As for you, my flock, thus says the Lord GOD: Behold, I judge between sheep and sheep, between rams and male goats.
(Ezekiel 34:18) Is it not enough for you to feed on the good pasture, that you must tread down with your feet the rest of your pasture; and to drink of clear water, that you must muddy the rest of the water with your feet?
(Ezekiel 34:19) And must my sheep eat what you have trodden with your feet, and drink what you have muddied with your feet?
(Ezekiel 34:20) "Therefore, thus says the Lord GOD to them: Behold, I, I myself will judge between the fat sheep and the lean sheep.
(Ezekiel 34:21) Because you push with side and shoulder, and thrust at all the weak with your horns, till you have scattered them abroad,
(Ezekiel 34:22) I will rescue my flock; they shall no longer be a prey. And I will judge between sheep and sheep.
(Ezekiel 34:23) And I will set up over them one shepherd, my servant David, and he shall feed them: he shall feed them and be their shepherd.
(Ezekiel 34:24) And I, the LORD, will be their God, and my servant David shall be prince among them. I am the LORD; I have spoken.
(Ezekiel 34:25) "I will make with them a covenant of peace and banish wild beasts from the land, so that they may dwell securely in the wilderness and sleep in the woods.
(Ezekiel 34:26) And I will make them and the places all around my hill a blessing, and I will send down the showers in their season; they shall be showers of blessing.
(Ezekiel 34:27) And the trees of the field shall yield their fruit, and the earth shall yield its increase, and they shall be secure in their land. And they shall know that I am the LORD, when I break the bars of their yoke, and deliver them from the hand of those who enslaved them.
(Ezekiel 34:28) They shall no more be a prey to the nations, nor shall the beasts of the land devour them. They shall dwell securely, and none shall make them afraid.
(Ezekiel 34:29) And I will provide for them renowned plantations so that they shall no more be consumed with hunger in the land, and no longer suffer the reproach of the nations.
(Ezekiel 34:30) And they shall know that I am the LORD their God with them, and that they, the house of Israel, are my people, declares the Lord GOD.
(Ezekiel 34:31) And you are my sheep, human sheep of my pasture, and I am your God, declares the Lord GOD."
Ezekiel chapter 37 is the powerful dry bones chapter where Ezekiel prophesies over the dry bones of Israel, and this is suggestive of Israel’s restoration from Babylonian captivity or even the end times
(Ezekiel 37:1) The hand of the LORD was upon me, and he brought me out in the Spirit of the LORD and set me down in the middle of the valley; it was full of bones.
(Ezekiel 37:2) And he led me around among them, and behold, there were very many on the surface of the valley, and behold, they were very dry.
(Ezekiel 37:3) And he said to me, "Son of man, can these bones live?" And I answered, "O Lord GOD, you know."
(Ezekiel 37:4) Then he said to me, "Prophesy over these bones, and say to them, O dry bones, hear the word of the LORD.
(Ezekiel 37:5) Thus says the Lord GOD to these bones: Behold, I will cause breath to enter you, and you shall live.
(Ezekiel 37:6) And I will lay sinews upon you, and will cause flesh to come upon you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and you shall live, and you shall know that I am the LORD."
(Ezekiel 37:7) So I prophesied as I was commanded. And as I prophesied, there was a sound, and behold, a rattling, and the bones came together, bone to its bone.
(Ezekiel 37:8) And I looked, and behold, there were sinews on them, and flesh had come upon them, and skin had covered them. But there was no breath in them.
(Ezekiel 37:9) Then he said to me, "Prophesy to the breath; prophesy, son of man, and say to the breath, Thus says the Lord GOD: Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe on these slain, that they may live."
(Ezekiel 37:10) So I prophesied as he commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived and stood on their feet, an exceedingly great army.
(Ezekiel 37:11) Then he said to me, "Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel. Behold, they say, 'Our bones are dried up, and our hope is lost; we are indeed cut off.'
(Ezekiel 37:12) Therefore prophesy, and say to them, Thus says the Lord GOD: Behold, I will open your graves and raise you from your graves, O my people. And I will bring you into the land of Israel.
(Ezekiel 37:13) And you shall know that I am the LORD, when I open your graves, and raise you from your graves, O my people.
(Ezekiel 37:14) And I will put my Spirit within you, and you shall live, and I will place you in your own land. Then you shall know that I am the LORD; I have spoken, and I will do it, declares the LORD."
(Ezekiel 37:15) The word of the LORD came to me:
(Ezekiel 37:16) "Son of man, take a stick and write on it, 'For Judah, and the people of Israel associated with him'; then take another stick and write on it, 'For Joseph (the stick of Ephraim) and all the house of Israel associated with him.'
(Ezekiel 37:17) And join them one to another into one stick, that they may become one in your hand.
(Ezekiel 37:18) And when your people say to you, 'Will you not tell us what you mean by these?'
(Ezekiel 37:19) say to them, Thus says the Lord GOD: Behold, I am about to take the stick of Joseph (that is in the hand of Ephraim) and the tribes of Israel associated with him. And I will join with it the stick of Judah, and make them one stick, that they may be one in my hand.
(Ezekiel 37:20) When the sticks on which you write are in your hand before their eyes,
(Ezekiel 37:21) then say to them, Thus says the Lord GOD: Behold, I will take the people of Israel from the nations among which they have gone, and will gather them from all around, and bring them to their own land.
(Ezekiel 37:22) And I will make them one nation in the land, on the mountains of Israel. And one king shall be king over them all, and they shall be no longer two nations, and no longer divided into two kingdoms.
(Ezekiel 37:23) They shall not defile themselves anymore with their idols and their detestable things, or with any of their transgressions. But I will save them from all the backslidings in which they have sinned, and will cleanse them; and they shall be my people, and I will be their God.
(Ezekiel 37:24) "My servant David shall be king over them, and they shall all have one shepherd. They shall walk in my rules and be careful to obey my statutes.
(Ezekiel 37:25) They shall dwell in the land that I gave to my servant Jacob, where your fathers lived. They and their children and their children's children shall dwell there forever, and David my servant shall be their prince forever.
(Ezekiel 37:26) I will make a covenant of peace with them. It shall be an everlasting covenant with them. And I will set them in their land and multiply them, and will set my sanctuary in their midst forevermore.
(Ezekiel 37:27) My dwelling place shall be with them, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
(Ezekiel 37:28) Then the nations will know that I am the LORD who sanctifies Israel, when my sanctuary is in their midst forevermore."
Daniel chapter three which tells of the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego and how they were cast into the furnace for refusing to worship a huge idol that Nebuchadnezzar set up, but delivered by God from the furnace shows God’s power to deliver His children really from any bad circumstance
(Daniel 3:1) King Nebuchadnezzar made an image of gold, whose height was sixty cubits and its breadth six cubits. He set it up on the plain of Dura, in the province of Babylon.
(Daniel 3:2) Then King Nebuchadnezzar sent to gather the satraps, the prefects, and the governors, the counselors, the treasurers, the justices, the magistrates, and all the officials of the provinces to come to the dedication of the image that King Nebuchadnezzar had set up.
(Daniel 3:3) Then the satraps, the prefects, and the governors, the counselors, the treasurers, the justices, the magistrates, and all the officials of the provinces gathered for the dedication of the image that King Nebuchadnezzar had set up. And they stood before the image that Nebuchadnezzar had set up.
(Daniel 3:4) And the herald proclaimed aloud, "You are commanded, O peoples, nations, and languages,
(Daniel 3:5) that when you hear the sound of the horn, pipe, lyre, trigon, harp, bagpipe, and every kind of music, you are to fall down and worship the golden image that King Nebuchadnezzar has set up.
(Daniel 3:6) And whoever does not fall down and worship shall immediately be cast into a burning fiery furnace."
(Daniel 3:7) Therefore, as soon as all the peoples heard the sound of the horn, pipe, lyre, trigon, harp, bagpipe, and every kind of music, all the peoples, nations, and languages fell down and worshiped the golden image that King Nebuchadnezzar had set up.
(Daniel 3:8) Therefore at that time certain Chaldeans came forward and maliciously accused the Jews.
(Daniel 3:9) They declared to King Nebuchadnezzar, "O king, live forever!
(Daniel 3:10) You, O king, have made a decree, that every man who hears the sound of the horn, pipe, lyre, trigon, harp, bagpipe, and every kind of music, shall fall down and worship the golden image.
(Daniel 3:11) And whoever does not fall down and worship shall be cast into a burning fiery furnace.
(Daniel 3:12) There are certain Jews whom you have appointed over the affairs of the province of Babylon: Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. These men, O king, pay no attention to you; they do not serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up."
(Daniel 3:13) Then Nebuchadnezzar in furious rage commanded that Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego be brought. So they brought these men before the king.
(Daniel 3:14) Nebuchadnezzar answered and said to them, "Is it true, O Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, that you do not serve my gods or worship the golden image that I have set up?
(Daniel 3:15) Now if you are ready when you hear the sound of the horn, pipe, lyre, trigon, harp, bagpipe, and every kind of music, to fall down and worship the image that I have made, well and good. But if you do not worship, you shall immediately be cast into a burning fiery furnace. And who is the god who will deliver you out of my hands?"
(Daniel 3:16) Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego answered and said to the king, "O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter.
(Daniel 3:17) If this be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of your hand, O king.
(Daniel 3:18) But if not, be it known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up."
(Daniel 3:19) Then Nebuchadnezzar was filled with fury, and the expression of his face was changed against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. He ordered the furnace heated seven times more than it was usually heated.
(Daniel 3:20) And he ordered some of the mighty men of his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, and to cast them into the burning fiery furnace.
(Daniel 3:21) Then these men were bound in their cloaks, their tunics, their hats, and their other garments, and they were thrown into the burning fiery furnace.
(Daniel 3:22) Because the king's order was urgent and the furnace overheated, the flame of the fire killed those men who took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.
(Daniel 3:23) And these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, fell bound into the burning fiery furnace.
(Daniel 3:24) Then King Nebuchadnezzar was astonished and rose up in haste. He declared to his counselors, "Did we not cast three men bound into the fire?" They answered and said to the king, "True, O king."
(Daniel 3:25) He answered and said, "But I see four men unbound, walking in the midst of the fire, and they are not hurt; and the appearance of the fourth is like a son of the gods."
(Daniel 3:26) Then Nebuchadnezzar came near to the door of the burning fiery furnace; he declared, "Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, servants of the Most High God, come out, and come here!" Then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego came out from the fire.
(Daniel 3:27) And the satraps, the prefects, the governors, and the king's counselors gathered together and saw that the fire had not had any power over the bodies of those men. The hair of their heads was not singed, their cloaks were not harmed, and no smell of fire had come upon them.
(Daniel 3:28) Nebuchadnezzar answered and said, "Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who has sent his angel and delivered his servants, who trusted in him, and set aside the king's command, and yielded up their bodies rather than serve and worship any god except their own God.
(Daniel 3:29) Therefore I make a decree: Any people, nation, or language that speaks anything against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego shall be torn limb from limb, and their houses laid in ruins, for there is no other god who is able to rescue in this way."
(Daniel 3:30) Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the province of Babylon.
Daniel chapter six which tells of Daniel and the lion’s den, where Daniel was cast after refusing to obey a degree that Darius was tricked into signing, was also rescued by God and His mercy and the plotters, who had come against Daniel hoping to rid themselves of him, instead were thrown into the lion’s den.
(Daniel 6:1) It pleased Darius to set over the kingdom 120 satraps, to be throughout the whole kingdom;
(Daniel 6:2) and over them three presidents, of whom Daniel was one, to whom these satraps should give account, so that the king might suffer no loss.
(Daniel 6:3) Then this Daniel became distinguished above all the other presidents and satraps, because an excellent spirit was in him. And the king planned to set him over the whole kingdom.
(Daniel 6:4) Then the presidents and the satraps sought to find a ground for complaint against Daniel with regard to the kingdom, but they could find no ground for complaint or any fault, because he was faithful, and no error or fault was found in him.
(Daniel 6:5) Then these men said, "We shall not find any ground for complaint against this Daniel unless we find it in connection with the law of his God."
(Daniel 6:6) Then these presidents and satraps came by agreement to the king and said to him, "O King Darius, live forever!
(Daniel 6:7) All the presidents of the kingdom, the prefects and the satraps, the counselors and the governors are agreed that the king should establish an ordinance and enforce an injunction, that whoever makes petition to any god or man for thirty days, except to you, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions.
(Daniel 6:8) Now, O king, establish the injunction and sign the document, so that it cannot be changed, according to the law of the Medes and the Persians, which cannot be revoked."
(Daniel 6:9) Therefore King Darius signed the document and injunction.
(Daniel 6:10) When Daniel knew that the document had been signed, he went to his house where he had windows in his upper chamber open toward Jerusalem. He got down on his knees three times a day and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as he had done previously.
(Daniel 6:11) Then these men came by agreement and found Daniel making petition and plea before his God.
(Daniel 6:12) Then they came near and said before the king, concerning the injunction, "O king! Did you not sign an injunction, that anyone who makes petition to any god or man within thirty days except to you, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions?" The king answered and said, "The thing stands fast, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which cannot be revoked."
(Daniel 6:13) Then they answered and said before the king, "Daniel, who is one of the exiles from Judah, pays no attention to you, O king, or the injunction you have signed, but makes his petition three times a day."
(Daniel 6:14) Then the king, when he heard these words, was much distressed and set his mind to deliver Daniel. And he labored till the sun went down to rescue him.
(Daniel 6:15) Then these men came by agreement to the king and said to the king, "Know, O king, that it is a law of the Medes and Persians that no injunction or ordinance that the king establishes can be changed."
(Daniel 6:16) Then the king commanded, and Daniel was brought and cast into the den of lions. The king declared to Daniel, "May your God, whom you serve continually, deliver you!"
(Daniel 6:17) And a stone was brought and laid on the mouth of the den, and the king sealed it with his own signet and with the signet of his lords, that nothing might be changed concerning Daniel.
(Daniel 6:18) Then the king went to his palace and spent the night fasting; no diversions were brought to him, and sleep fled from him.
(Daniel 6:19) Then, at break of day, the king arose and went in haste to the den of lions.
(Daniel 6:20) As he came near to the den where Daniel was, he cried out in a tone of anguish. The king declared to Daniel, "O Daniel, servant of the living God, has your God, whom you serve continually, been able to deliver you from the lions?"
(Daniel 6:21) Then Daniel said to the king, "O king, live forever!
(Daniel 6:22) My God sent his angel and shut the lions' mouths, and they have not harmed me, because I was found blameless before him; and also before you, O king, I have done no harm."
(Daniel 6:23) Then the king was exceedingly glad, and commanded that Daniel be taken up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no kind of harm was found on him, because he had trusted in his God.
(Daniel 6:24) And the king commanded, and those men who had maliciously accused Daniel were brought and cast into the den of lions--they, their children, and their wives. And before they reached the bottom of the den, the lions overpowered them and broke all their bones in pieces.
(Daniel 6:25) Then King Darius wrote to all the peoples, nations, and languages that dwell in all the earth: "Peace be multiplied to you.
(Daniel 6:26) I make a decree, that in all my royal dominion people are to tremble and fear before the God of Daniel, for he is the living God, enduring forever; his kingdom shall never be destroyed, and his dominion shall be to the end.
(Daniel 6:27) He delivers and rescues; he works signs and wonders in heaven and on earth, he who has saved Daniel from the power of the lions."
(Daniel 6:28) So this Daniel prospered during the reign of Darius and the reign of Cyrus the Persian.
This group of bible chapters and verses all show God’s wonderful power and ability to deliver people from anything at all. He is wonderful that way. He would go on to send His son to die for all of us to save us all from our sins. He did this in love wanting to restore the relationship between Him and man which had been cut off by man’s sins. Jesus’ atoning death on the cross paid the price for these sins and enabled man to have this love relationship with God. There is nothing that can compare with or even come close to this love relationship with God. I am now including a prayer which you can say which will invite Jesus in your heart to begin this wonderful and incomparable relationship with God. Please pray this following prayer with me
Dear God in heaven, I come to you in the name of Jesus. I acknowledge to You that I am a sinner, and I am sorry for my sins and the life that I have lived; I need your forgiveness. I believe that your only begotten Son Jesus Christ shed His precious blood on the cross at Calvary and died for my sins, and I am now willing to turn from my sin. You said in Your Holy Word, Romans 10:9 that if we confess Jesus as our Lord and believe in our hearts that God raised Jesus from the dead, we will be saved. Right now I confess Jesus as the Lord of my soul. With my heart, I believe that God raised Jesus from the dead. This very moment I accept Jesus Christ as my own personal Savior and according to His Word, right now I am saved. Thank you Jesus for your unlimited grace which has saved me from my sins. I thank you Jesus that your grace never leads to license, but rather it always leads to repentance. Therefore Lord Jesus transform my life so that I may bring glory and honor to you alone and not to myself. Thank you Jesus for dying for me and giving me eternal life.
Amen.
God bless you and yours
