Romans chapter 11 Salvation teaching
Romans chapter 11 is important for it does explain to a large degree how the Gentiles(us) got their opportunity for salvation by the fact that the Jews(some) were made spiritually blind. We do need to fear as Gentiles for though they can be grafted in if they believe for the calling and gifts of God are irrevocable. Paul uses grafting of branches into an Olive tree by example here in this chapter and warns the gentiles can be taken out too, so don’t be high minded and proud spiritually. Here is the chapter:
(Romans 11:1) I ask, then, has God rejected his people? By no means! For I myself am an Israelite, a descendant of Abraham, a member of the tribe of Benjamin.
(Romans 11:2) God has not rejected his people whom he foreknew. Do you not know what the Scripture says of Elijah, how he appeals to God against Israel?
(Romans 11:3) "Lord, they have killed your prophets, they have demolished your altars, and I alone am left, and they seek my life."
(Romans 11:4) But what is God's reply to him? "I have kept for myself seven thousand men who have not bowed the knee to Baal."
(Romans 11:5) So too at the present time there is a remnant, chosen by grace.
(Romans 11:6) But if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works; otherwise grace would no longer be grace.
(Romans 11:7) What then? Israel failed to obtain what it was seeking. The elect obtained it, but the rest were hardened,
(Romans 11:8) as it is written, "God gave them a spirit of stupor, eyes that would not see and ears that would not hear, down to this very day."
(Romans 11:9) And David says, "Let their table become a snare and a trap, a stumbling block and a retribution for them;
(Romans 11:10) let their eyes be darkened so that they cannot see, and bend their backs forever."
(Romans 11:11) So I ask, did they stumble in order that they might fall? By no means! Rather through their trespass salvation has come to the Gentiles, so as to make Israel jealous.
(Romans 11:12) Now if their trespass means riches for the world, and if their failure means riches for the Gentiles, how much more will their full inclusion mean!
(Romans 11:13) Now I am speaking to you Gentiles. Inasmuch then as I am an apostle to the Gentiles, I magnify my ministry
(Romans 11:14) in order somehow to make my fellow Jews jealous, and thus save some of them.
(Romans 11:15) For if their rejection means the reconciliation of the world, what will their acceptance mean but life from the dead?
(Romans 11:16) If the dough offered as firstfruits is holy, so is the whole lump, and if the root is holy, so are the branches.
(Romans 11:17) But if some of the branches were broken off, and you, although a wild olive shoot, were grafted in among the others and now share in the nourishing root of the olive tree,
(Romans 11:18) do not be arrogant toward the branches. If you are, remember it is not you who support the root, but the root that supports you.
(Romans 11:19) Then you will say, "Branches were broken off so that I might be grafted in."
(Romans 11:20) That is true. They were broken off because of their unbelief, but you stand fast through faith. So do not become proud, but fear.
(Romans 11:21) For if God did not spare the natural branches, neither will he spare you.
(Romans 11:22) Note then the kindness and the severity of God: severity toward those who have fallen, but God's kindness to you, provided you continue in his kindness. Otherwise you too will be cut off.
(Romans 11:23) And even they, if they do not continue in their unbelief, will be grafted in, for God has the power to graft them in again.
(Romans 11:24) For if you were cut from what is by nature a wild olive tree, and grafted, contrary to nature, into a cultivated olive tree, how much more will these, the natural branches, be grafted back into their own olive tree.
(Romans 11:25) Lest you be wise in your own sight, I want you to understand this mystery, brothers: a partial hardening has come upon Israel, until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in.
(Romans 11:26) And in this way all Israel will be saved, as it is written, "The Deliverer will come from Zion, he will banish ungodliness from Jacob";
(Romans 11:27) "and this will be my covenant with them when I take away their sins."
(Romans 11:28) As regards the gospel, they are enemies of God for your sake. But as regards election, they are beloved for the sake of their forefathers.
(Romans 11:29) For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.
(Romans 11:30) For just as you were at one time disobedient to God but now have received mercy because of their disobedience,
(Romans 11:31) so they too have now been disobedient in order that by the mercy shown to you they also may now receive mercy.
(Romans 11:32) For God has consigned all to disobedience, that he may have mercy on all.
(Romans 11:33) Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways!
(Romans 11:34) "For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who has been his counselor?"
(Romans 11:35) "Or who has given a gift to him that he might be repaid?"
(Romans 11:36) For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen.
Next I am going to amply this message with verses from chapter three saying none are favored that nobody does right and there is no distinction or partiality between the gentiles and the Jews, either for all have fallen short of God’s glory and all can be justified to life eternal in Jesus
Romans 3:9) What then? Are we Jews any better off? No, not at all. For we have already charged that all, both Jews and Greeks, are under sin,
(Romans 3:10) as it is written: "None is righteous, no, not one;
(Romans 3:11) no one understands; no one seeks for God.
(Romans 3:12) All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one."
(Romans 3:19) Now we know that whatever the law says it speaks to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be stopped, and the whole world may be held accountable to God.
(Romans 3:20) For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin.
(Romans 3:21) But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it--
(Romans 3:22) the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction:
(Romans 3:23) for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
(Romans 3:24) and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,
(Romans 3:25) whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God's righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins.
(Romans 3:26) It was to show his righteousness at the present time, so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.
(Romans 3:27) Then what becomes of our boasting? It is excluded. By what kind of law? By a law of works? No, but by the law of faith.
(Romans 3:28) For we hold that one is justified by faith apart from works of the law.
(Romans 3:29) Or is God the God of Jews only? Is he not the God of Gentiles also? Yes, of Gentiles also,
(Romans 3:30) since God is one--who will justify the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised through faith.
(Romans 3:31) Do we then overthrow the law by this faith? By no means! On the contrary, we uphold the law.
The last four verses in Romans 6 further add to the point of our need of a savior to avoid the wages of sin and how Jesus did that for us
(Romans 6:20) For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness.
(Romans 6:21) But what fruit were you getting at that time from the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death.
(Romans 6:22) But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the fruit you get leads to sanctification and its end, eternal life.
(Romans 6:23) For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord
As some of the above verses do remind us, this verse really drives home the point that eternal life from heaven is really a gift from God and cannot be earned in any way by our own works so God Himself has provided the means to escape hell and to have eternal life with Him.
(Ephesians 2:8) For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,
(Ephesians 2:9) not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
(2 Corinthians 9:15) Thanks be to God for his inexpressible gift!
As these verses in 1 Timothy state God wants all people to be saved
(1 Timothy 2:3) This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior,
(1 Timothy 2:4) who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
(1 Timothy 2:5) For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,
(1 Timothy 2:6) who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time
These verses in 1 Peter shed more light on this purpose of Jesus
(1 Peter 2:24) He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.
(1 Peter 2:25) For you were straying like sheep, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls
That message also is here in this 1 Peter 3 verse
(1 Peter 3:18) For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit
And so does these two verses in 2 Peter 3 for time is nothing to the Lord and He wants all to come to repentance and is patient
(2 Peter 3:8) But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
(2 Peter 3:9) The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.
These two verses in 1 John 2 also state how Jesus was the propitiation for our sins and all mankind’s
(1 John 2:1) My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.
(1 John 2:2) He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.
Also a very similar message is given in these two verses in 1 John chapter 4 how God loved us and sent Jesus to be a propitiation for our sins
(1 John 4:9) In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him.
(1 John 4:10) In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
Again the message of believing in the Son, Jesus, by faith for eternal life is presented very convincingly here in 1 John 5
(1 John 5:4) For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world--our faith.
(1 John 5:5) Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?
(1 John 5:6) This is he who came by water and blood--Jesus Christ; not by the water only but by the water and the blood. And the Spirit is the one who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth.
(1 John 5:7) For there are three that testify:
(1 John 5:8) the Spirit and the water and the blood; and these three agree.
(1 John 5:9) If we receive the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater, for this is the testimony of God that he has borne concerning his Son.
(1 John 5:10) Whoever believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself. Whoever does not believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has borne concerning his Son.
(1 John 5:11) And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
(1 John 5:12) Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.
(1 John 5:13) I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God that you may know that you have eternal life.
Here is a message from Jude to build ourselves in the live of God for the mercy of Jeus leading to eternal life
(Jude 1:20) But you, beloved, building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit,
(Jude 1:21) keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life.
Here Jesus Himself says that He is the only way to Heaven and the Father and in so doing avoid hell that Jesus Himself spoke of
(John 14:6) Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
But Jesus also makes it clear in Revelation that He indeed is seeking people always
(Revelation 3:20) Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.
And here are the two key verses in Romans 10 about Salvation:
(Romans 10:9) because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
(Romans 10:10) For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.
(Romans 10:11) For the Scripture says, "Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame."
(Romans 10:12) For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him.
(Romans 10:13) For "everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."
Now those people are now a new creation in Christ
(2 Corinthians 5:17) Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come
And also at peace with God being justified by faith
(Romans 5:1) Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
These two verses promise no condemnation with those in Jesus
(Romans 8:1) There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
(Romans 8:2) For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death
(Romans 8:31) What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?
(Romans 8:32) He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?
(Romans 8:33) Who shall bring any charge against God's elect? It is God who justifies.
(Romans 8:34) Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died--more than that, who was raised--who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us.
(Romans 8:35) Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword?
(Romans 8:36) As it is written, "For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered."
(Romans 8:37) No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.
And nothing can now separate us from the love of God in Jesus, either
(Romans 8:38) For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers,
(Romans 8:39) nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
I am sure you have now seen enough now to be ready to pray to be saved. I am now including a short prayer that you can say to ensure that you are saved and have eternal life when you die, going to heaven to be with Jesus forever and not end up going to hell.
Heavenly Father I come to You in the Name of Jesus. I confess to You that I am a sinner and cannot save myself. I confess and repent of all of my sins and unrighteousness. Right now I confess with my mouth Jesus as the Lord of my life and believe in my heart that You, God did indeed raise Him from the dead. I thank You for cleansing and forgiving me of all of my sins and unrighteousness and for saving me. I thank You for sending Your Son to die in my place for my sins, and for the inexpressible gift of eternal life that I now claim through the death of Jesus on the cross. Thank You, Lord, again for saving me. In the Name of Jesus I pray Amen
