The Arrogance of Atheism by Joe La Bianca


There are many contemptible things about atheism. One is the arrogance that some atheists display. They say that they do not need God, that all they need is themselves. They think they are self-sufficient. Let me show you that humans are not self-sufficient.
I saw a show where the host fell into freezing water to test hypothermia. The capillaries in his hands and feet closed down. The body was giving up on the extremities in order to warm the vital areas of the body. The body took control of the situation. Then he started shivering. Every muscle was in spasm in order to produce heat. The body took control again, and was acting independently of the mind. If someone thinks he doesn’t need God, he should realize that he cannot survive two minutes without the involuntary processes of the body that were programmed by God to function independently of the human will.
Behind the scenes there was someone who knew there would be cold, and also knew that our bodies needed to maintain a specific temperature to survive. These bodily processes, which are beyond our mental capacity to control, show that there is someone who knows more than we do, and who takes care of us beyond our human ability or will. That someone is God.
Atheists see many wonders of nature and attribute them to nothing. Theists attribute them to God. Tell me, who is more reasonable? Atheists say that they will not believe in God unless they can have empirical evidence. That is the same as saying that they want to put God in a test tube. If I were God and some puny man told me to get in a test tube to prove myself to him, I certainly would not do it. In fact, I would not want that man’s belief anyway. To this one I say, “Humble yourself before the LORD.”
There are two kinds of evidence: concrete evidence, and circumstantial evidence. Concrete evidence has to do with tangible things, like putting God in a test tube so we can observe Him physically. But God is a spirit. How can you observe a spirit physically? They reject God based on a physical argument. They do not address the real God in His real essence. This is unfair.
Circumstantial evidence has to do with the circumstances around us, like all those wonders of creation I referred to. Listen. Man is without an excuse if he doesn’t believe in God based on his knowledge of creation.
If atheists try to disprove God with their false reasoning, just apply their thinking to their atheism. They destroy their own position with their pseudo -logic. The reasons they give to do away with God also do away with atheism.
The hypocrisy of the atheist is his self-reliance. We have already seen that we cannot assume the bodily responsibility for our own survival or existence. Most of the mechanisms that keep us alive are involuntary, so how can we take the credit for our existence?
Atheists are physically self-reliant, which is pure folly. We were placed in a world with sunshine, food, air, gravity, and a mostly automatic body. To say that we don’t need God shows that we are in need of some common sense.
We should admit that we are not only physically reliant on God, we are spiritually reliant on God. We cannot get to Heaven on our own. We need to have faith in Jesus, God’s only Son. Jesus died for our sins on the cross and then He raised Himself up from the dead. If we merely believe this, we are back with God and on our way to Heaven. So give up on the foolishness of not believing in God, and trust in the Son of His love, Jesus the Savior.
