Faith And Faithfulness

By Mick Alexander, 2012-12-20

Faith And Faithfulness
"The righteous will live by faith." Hab. 2:4

The following article was written by Jacob Prasch of Moriel Ministries. I have added the bits in square brackets.

In Hebrew, the word for "faith" is "emunah" from which we get the word "amen"; in Hebrew the word for "faithfulness" is "emunah". It is the same word, like from the book of Lamentations: "Great is thy faithfulness" (Lam. 3:23). The Hebrew language makes no distinction between "faith" and "faithfulness" and neither, technically, does the Greek - "pistis". There may be a difference in the case endings, but the word for "faith" and the word for "faithfulness" is the same. In other words, if somebody's faith is genuine,...

God's Love

By Mick Alexander, 2012-12-30

God's Love
"God is love." (1 John 4:16)

As we look at the evil in this sin-sick world it is easy to see why non-believers say that God cannot be a God of love. It's hard to find words to describe how low mankind has sunk and, despite all the empty talk, things are only going to get worse until Jesus returns. God is allowing the world to continue on its sinful free-fall into greater filth, violence and apostasy. However, there is a limit as "He has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed [that is, Jesus] " (Acts 17:31). But why is Jesus so slow in returning? Speaking about Jesus' return, 2 Pet. 3:9 gives the answer where it says, "The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient...

The Two Wolves

By Mick Alexander, 2013-01-13

The Two Wolves
"I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses.

Now choose life." (Deu. 30:19)

Whenever someone repents and accepts Jesus as Lord of their life, the Holy Spirit comes to live within them and, from that point on, a spiritual battle exists between their sinful nature and the Holy Spirit. Gal. 5:17 describes this battle: "For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want." Our sinful nature is a powerful force which will continue to rule our lives unless we submit to the Spirit just as Gal. 5:16 tells us, "live by the Spirit, and you will not...

Returning God's Love

By Mick Alexander, 2013-01-29

Returning God's Love
Jesus said, "If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching."

(John 14:23)

Rom 5:8 tells us, "God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Through the cross, our heavenly Father clearly demonstrated His love for us. What does He require from us to return that love?

First, let's look at not loving God

In 1 John 3:1 we are told, "How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!" As believers, we are sons of God and the Progidal Son (Luke 15:11-32) is a good example of what a child of God should not do....

Recognising The Antichrist

By Mick Alexander, 2013-02-17

Recognising The Antichrist
"… he sets himself up in God's temple, proclaiming himself to be God."

(2 Thess. 2:4)

The Bible tells us that one day a man, called the Antichrist, will appear in the Temple (yet to be built) and declare himself to be God. 2 Thess. 2:4 speaks about this saying, "He will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God's temple, proclaiming himself to be God." When this happens, we will know beyond question who the Antichrist is yet Jesus tells us, in Matt. 24, that many, many believers will still be deceived and follow this false Messiah believing that he is the real Christ. This deception will occur because the coming of the...

The Man And The Birds

By Mick Alexander, 2013-03-06

The Man And The Birds
"The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us."

(John 1:14)

This is a story of an average man, not a scrooge but a kind, decent and mostly good man. He was generous to his family and upright in his dealings with other men. However, he just didn't believe all that incarnation stuff which the churches proclaim at Christmas time. It just didn't make sense and he was too honest to pretend otherwise. He just couldn't swallow the Jesus story about God coming to earth as a man.

“I'm truly sorry to distress you,” he told his wife, “but I'm not going with you to church this Christmas Eve.” He said he'd feel like a hypocrite and that he'd much rather just stay at home but he...

Sitting On The Fence

Sitting On The Fence

" Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God. "
(James 4:4 NIV)

Some churchgoers are quite happy being in church and in sin at the same time. They are very comfortable, thinking that they can have the best of both worlds; they are enjoying the lusts of the flesh and will one day enjoy the pleasures of heaven also ... so they think!

However, the Bible makes it clear that we cannot be in sin and in Christ at the same time. James 4:4 makes this very obvious where it...

Confessing And Repenting

By Mick Alexander, 2013-04-16

Confessing And Repenting
Is there any connection between confessing sin and repenting of it?

In 1 John 1:9 (ESV) Christians are told, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins ..." So, when we confess our sins we are forgiven but what does it mean to confess? Many people say that it is merely admitting that we have sinned. Is this true or is there a deeper meaning?

What does it mean to confess?

Let's imagine that confessing sins is just admitting that we have sinned. So, if I lust and admit it to God then He will forgive me.

If I do the same thing next day He will...
