"The Bible calls David “a man after God's own heart” twice. The first time was by Samuel who anointed him as back slidden King Saul's successor, “ But now thy kingdom shall not continue: the LORD hath sought him a man after his own heart, and the LORD hath commanded him to be captain over his people , because thou hast not kept that which the LORD commanded thee.” (1 Sam. 13:14, KJV).
Concerning Apostle Paul
1 Corinthians 1
King James Version
1 Paul called to be an apostle of Jesus Christ through the will of God, and Sosthenes our brother,
1 Samuel 16.12 kjv
12 So Jesse sent for him. He had a healthy complexion, attractive eyes, and a handsome appearance. The Lord said, “Go ahead, anoint him. He is the one .” 13 Samuel took the flask of olive oil and anointed David in the presence of his brothers. The Lord’s Spirit came over David and stayed with him from that day on. Then Samuel left for Ramah .
One was called to be an apostle
The other a King from Christs bloodline

Paul the Apostle was a persecutor of Christians and King David committed a grave sin. So you might ask why would God save such men but not only that but call them to service? And because we are under grace through faith we can't make excuses because God searches the heart. It's a far cry to claim grace when you have known the truth for it to keep rebounding.
What was God's purpose for King David?
"In 2 Samuel 7 David expressed his desire to build a temple for God. God's desire, however, was to establish a dynasty, a house of rulers to sit on the throne of Israel for generations to come. The Lord fulfilled His promise, both literally and spiritually." May 25, 2018
What happened to King David in the Bible?
"King David died from natural causes around 970 BCE, was buried in Jerusalem, and, as suggested in the Hebrew and Greek scriptures, facilitated the establishment of the kingdom of Israel through his piety and lineage."
What was King David's greatest sin?
"(27-1) Introduction. The price of David's sin of murder and adultery was high. He spent the rest of his life regretting it. In one psalm he expressed his mental torment and pleaded for forgiveness."
How old was biblical King David when he died? about 70 years old
Some history:
King David, the second and greatest of Israel's kings, who ruled the country 3000 years ago, was about 70 years old at the end of his reign.
"Matthew begins by calling Jesus the son of David, indicating his royal origin, and also son of Abraham, indicating that he was an Israelite; both are stock phrases, in which son means descendant, calling to mind the promises God made to David and to Abraham."
“ So Saul died for his unfaithfulness which he had committed against the Lord, because he did not keep the word of the Lord, and also because he consulted a medium for guidance . But he did not inquire of the Lord; therefore He killed him, and turned the kingdom over to David the son of Jesse.” 1 Chronicles 10:13-14"
Breaking a covenant will bring judgment. Saul disobeyed God and consulted a medium.
"Even though David had committed adultery and murder, the Bible refers to David as an example of those who are justified (declared totally righteous before God) by faith alone in Christ alone apart from any works. “5 But to him who does not work but believes on Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is accounted for righteousness, 6 just as David also describes the blessedness of the man to whom God imputes righteousness apart from works: 7 ‘Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven, and whose sins are covered; 8 Blessed is the man to whom the Lord shall not impute sin’ ” (Romans 4:5-8; cf. Psalms 32:1-2). Paul quotes David (Romans 4:7-8) who wrote in Psalm 32:1-2 of the blessedness of forgiveness as he looked ahead to the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ which would pay the penalty for the sin of the world (John 1:29), including David’s adultery and murder (cf. Psalm 16:8-11; Acts 2:24-36; Colossians 2:13-14)."
10 Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:
11 For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
What does the Bible say about your calling?
Ephesians 4:1-6
"As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace." Dec 30, 2019
Psalm 18:3-6
King James Version
3 I will call upon the Lord , who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.
4 The sorrows of death compassed me, and the floods of ungodly men made me afraid.
5 The sorrows of hell compassed me about: the snares of death prevented me.
6 In my distress I called upon the Lord , and cried unto my God: he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, even into his ears.
John 6:44 King James Version 44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.

“ But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you .”
King James Version (KJV)
1 Peter 2:9
“But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:”
