40 And when he was at the place , he said unto them , Pray that ye enter not into temptation.
So earlier he said he that has no sword let him sell his cloak and buy one and when they eventually told him here are two swords he said it was enough. He made the proclamation that the things written about him had to be fulfilled. So actually prophecy had to come forth that was written about him. Let him sell his cloak and go buy a sword yet he said two are enough. Then in verse 40 he said pray that you enter not into temptation. Just like the Our Father prayer.
Again in verse 45 as they're sleeping look what he says to them and he warns them about entering into temptation and remember later on Peter cuts off the ear of servant of the high priest.
45 And when he rose up from prayer, and was come to his disciples, he found them sleeping for sorrow,
46 And said unto them, Why sleep ye? rise and pray , lest ye enter into temptation.
Look what occurs in these verses 50-53
50 And one of them smote the servant of the high priest, and cut off his right ear.
51 And Jesus answered and said, Suffer ye thus far. And he touched his ear, and healed him.
52 Then Jesus said unto the chief priests, and captains of the temple, and the elders, which were come to him, Be ye come out, as against a thief, with swords and staves?
53 When I was daily with you in the temple, ye stretched forth no hands against me: but this is your hour, and the power of darkness.
So he was not instilling to use a sword for physical protection because prophecy had to be fulfilled. Now a certain Christian in the faith said that the sword was bought for protection but I differ respectfully. You see in verse 53 it's all there. When he was in the temple nobody attacked him but now it's the power of darkness. None of the Apostles died protecting themselves with weapons because we wrestle not against flesh and blood.
For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds
If it's true that Christ told Apostle Peter how he would be scourged and die when he's old he didn't tell him to buy a bunch of swords or any weapon and protect himself. He said enter not into temptation . So when you're weak you are strong. You have to do things God's way not your way. His will be done and make sure you pray you don't enter into temptation.
In my afterthoughts and after notes I'm adding on to this because I see it's very important and hypocrites extend even into True Believers for some particular things that apply.
" So Jesus reminds them of how they went into the world with nothing and asks if they actually lacked anything. No, they say. He says that one who has something should sell it and buy a sword. They'll need it so that the authorities will find Jesus “among the lawless .” Nov 13, 2019
Why did Jesus say to buy a sword?
Someone else's interpretation
" Formerly, when the Disciples had gone out, on mission, they had not lacked anything. Now they would need a purse, a bag and even a sword. The saying is heavily ironical, for Jesus knew that now He would have to face universal opposition and be put to death. But the disciples misunderstood Him and produced weapons ."
It was truly shameful and stupid ignorance, that the disciples, after having been so often informed about bearing the cross, imagine that they must fight with swords of iron .
"On balance it seems that Jesus is not telling the disciples to buy actual swords. He is saying that they are about to enter into very perilous times and they will need to keep the sword of the Spirit “half drawn” at all times ."
In the Book of Matthew look what he tells them
Matthew 5:30 KJV
And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.
You know certain Christians have a different walk with the Lord as they fulfill his will for their lives and it's revealed to them and reaffirmed in faith the truth. Today they have greatly made the sanctuary, the house of God into a den of thieves. Apostle Paul lost his life and it said that he was beheaded and he knew he fought the good fight but he didn't go purchase swords to defend himself. Same with Peter the Apostle and same with Christ. Most of the Apostles died at the hands of evil people and were righteous and holy. Old Testament is a different story.
Matthew 26:52
“Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword ."
There's a problem today that even true Christians could be hypocrites. You remember Christ when he tells people he doesn't know them they appear to be actually real Christians not counterfeit because they were casting out demons. He said when you are able to cast out demons the kingdom of God has come on to you. You have power over them. The kingdom of God has not come on to people that don't possess that power and Satan will not cast out Satan. You will not inherit the Kingdom? Who? The unrighteous. What did Christ say to do to Satan? To get behind him. Satan was a murderer from the beginning. That's what Christ said. Are we to follow in his Satins footsteps or in the footsteps of Christ who prunes the branches? If you are born again as written in John 3:3 what are you born again of? Of incorruptible seed. Pick up your cross and follow me? What is the cross? Your death. All those who live righteous in Christ will be persecuted. Vengeance belongs to God not us. Pray that you don't enter into temptation. All of what I've mentioned here make it very obvious. Christ could have called a bunch of angels and did things his way but he overcame the world and Satan and made a mockery of them how? By rising from the dead. He lived the perfect life that you and I could not. 2:44 a.m. April 13th 2023
