So you think about the canaanites, moabites, jesabites, ammonites, edomites the different groups of tribes as described in the Bible and these different people groups some that were enemies of the Jewish Hebrews some if not all. If you're thinking about what's written in the Bible such as these groups please try and understand what I'm referring to here. You know when Joshua & Caleb had to go do the report and they brought back an evil report. Num. 13:17 God was not too happy with this report because they seem to be faithless. So why do I bring this up? Think about Pharisee the people that were in slavery in Egypt God's people who God exiled being Jewish people even today they refer to them as God's chosen people. Well the Bible tells us that all of Israel will come to believe one day. Romans 11:26 KJV Matthew 24:30 KJV At his appearing there will be weeping. Revelation 1:7 KJV Last week I had a look at the woman at Jacob's well the Samaritan woman being the figure in the gospel of John. Then I looked at the 40 years in the desert and the murmuring and rebellion against Moses and Aaron. I also read about the assignment to go get a the report and they seen giants and they felt like grasshoppers amongst these people feeling they could never overcome them and it angered God and the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; to go by day and night: Exodus 13:21 KJV somebody according to God's word Miriam got struck with leprosy because it angered God. " 10 And the cloud departed from off the tabernacle; and, behold, Miriam became leprous, white as snow: and Aaron looked upon Miriam, and, behold, she was leprous." You see God spoke with Moses and that's what was important so look what it says in 9 And the anger of the Lord was kindled against them; and he departed. So what does this teach us?
Well you don't want to put words in God's mouth. God had a relationship with Moses and that's what was important. But as far as Christ goes in our relationship with him when we murmur and complain losing faith especially after Christ gave his life as a ransom for many that's not too spiritually healthy nor does it show trust or faith in God but wickedness so don't abuse grace as apostle Paul said God forbid. Remember these people seen all these miracles including all the plagues that came to Pharoh and his people in Egypt saying did God take us here in the desert to die. You see they realized back in slavery they had bread and they had it good even though it was not good. Now they've been set free and they're murmuring and complaining so a great number of them circles for 40 years in the desert until they mostly all died out. Now I need to get this out of the way before I can get to the main theme which is how do people become Pharisees.
This is maybe not a good thing to discuss during the tensions in Israel because we have Christian Pharisees and probably Pharisees of other religions which we know about. Things seeped into Israel or Judea, Jerusalem back in the Old Testament and great prophets like Jeremiah or Ezekiel even Isaiah warned the people to turn back to the God of Abraham Isaac and Jacob and because even some false prophets caused trouble and other empires that conquered them brought their traditions/religions in and deceived many of their children they started to do things that were wicked and abominations to their God and so they were exiled eventually actually twice. They failed to be faithful. They were even exiled one time to Babylon. So imagine that they come back to the Holy Land as Israel became a nation and prophecy was fulfilled was it in May 14 1948. Perhaps they didn't want to be exiled anymore and so somehow as a Jewish religion known today as Judaism its leaders got stingy because when Christ came these Pharisees despised him. Just like Isaiah 53 many years before prophesied it happened. But how did they become Pharisees and as Christ relayed they were on the wrong track but he seen some interesting positivity reflections in Nicodemus the Pharisee that paid for Christs burial and believed he was a man come from God. You know you think about it that God was with them in a sense. God gave them a number of commandments that were detailed 613 is the total. Obviously they were God's people but what happened where some became Pharisees as some people say that the Pharisees of today or even some of the Jewish people are not the same people which I don't know about but the point is how did they become Pharisees knowing the God of Abraham Isaac and Jacob. Moses was not so as you can tell from the scriptures. I mean if you read scripture you see Kings like Nebuchadnezzar in 605 BC even with King David you learn interest things. Even Daniel who explained to king Nebuchadnezzar about his dream. Now we go forward to the New Testament Christ finally arrives and the things unfold as written in the New Testament and he even meets with these Pharisees and there's the story about the woman with the perfume who wiped his feet. Showed great love for him and respect. They say she anointed Christ and I guess you'd have to read about the significance of that but the point is he had such a lesson for those Pharisees that accused him of many terrible things and they accused him of using the power of b eelzebul the devil which was wicked and he warned them about the sin that will not be forgiven in this life nor in the life to come. All of the wickedness they did to him trying to accuse him of different things doing things that was in opposition to them on the Sabbath. How did they become like this? Now the one particularly about not washing the hands and he used it to show them how wicked their hearts really were despite that they did not wash their hands. You see we can have Christian Pharisees today. Christ said a sign that you're his is that you love people. Not necessarily that you assemble and associate with the deceived on a daily basis because the Bible says be a separate people. But how did these people become Pharisees? You see people become religious wolves as it seeps in somehow and maybe thinking controlling the people that way would make them listen but think about when he gave Adam and Eve instructions not to eat from the tree of knowledge of Good and Evil it was simple instructions and commanded. Or when God asks Satan where he's been and there's talk about JOB it's talk communication and simple instructions were given even to Satan regarding JOB. Well as far as Christ goes people do give him lip service. Despite all the miracles he did there were many people that were not interested in repenting nor giving their lives to him they just wanted material possessions like food and sometimes they abandoned him. You see the point is it's a choice and you don't have to have a weapon to force the behavior it's a choice and the tongue has the power of life and death. People make the choice in faith to believe in him and to follow him even giving their lives to him. But you can pull all the hairs out on your head as you see the world in chaos and rebellion daily out there but that's not going to change people because it's a choice. I see/hear continually on a daily basis people swearing taking Christ's name and God's name in vain like running tap water and it's amazing that they don't know there's going to be judgment for that. They're all running around like busy bodies with headsets on talking on the phone. I seen one guy sitting in a restaurant talking on the phone to himself he didn't even need to have company with his little ear piece plugged into the phone that you see so many with today. No Bible. You know they say you should be on fire for Christ. You should be on fire for God. God knows the heart and he tells us even taking into account true believers that all have become unprofitable and have no understanding. I'm not putting under a microscope true Christians with their own ministries and their teaching abilities. What does it mean to live a life submitted to Christ without becoming a Pharisee? You know he told us about the wicked servant when the master comes he will be cut asunder. It's not easy picking up your cross contending for the faith once delivered unto the Saints and using Godly wisdom not becoming a Pharisee as we have Christians fighting Christians today yet he expects a body of believers sanctified in the truth and a body without stain. We have to preach hell yes and we have to preach the gospel but as a choice its theirs and we can become Pharisees condemning people to hell but that's not our job it is to warn people of the judgment to come. You know there's no concord between darkness and light absolutely no agreement whatsoever. Still without becoming Pharisees as we become religious devils we have to still exercise wisdom which is not easy in some cases. You know they say as written God is angry with the wicked every single day and sometimes Christians and preaching get angry which is they are exercising some hard love. Stern love. But still we should not become Pharisees and become religious devils and now we start to slide into slopeseep becoming wolves.
You think of all the prophets like Jeremiah and Ezekiel and Isaiah when they gave their warnings they had a choice to make the people receiving the warnings. If you force it that doesn't work and you become Pharisees in the end it just becomes a headache. Now given today that you have evil on profound scales with some people forgiveness is very complicated. ( Situation going on in the world ) referring to what's going on in the Holy Land. That's a different set of circumstances. Somehow God is involved judgment-wise but still people should pray for peace. Still we should not become Pharisees. If we become religious devils as wolves in sheep's clothing we're not abiding in Christ anymore. You see how easy it is to become Pharisees. Love your enemies as yourself which is very hard to do and a lot of people give Christ lip service . We complain we murmur some lost gossip and waste their lives those that are engulfed in sinful desires without realizing there is judgment down the line.
In my afterthoughts and notes what were the faults of the Pharisees according to Christ?
The Pharisees paid a great deal of attention to outward ordinances and actions that would make them appear righteous, but they were not as concerned with actually being righteous in their hearts . For this Jesus referred to them as hypocrites.
So you think about the canaanites, moabites, jesabites, ammonites, edomites the different groups of tribes as described in the Bible and these different people groups some that were enemies of the Jewish Hebrews some if not all.
