I hate to open in this way but atheists are fools . In essence we can even say God hates religion which is true it's men who have corrupted the truth turned relationship into religion but man is not just subject to being deceived not only is there a higher being that is the true living God but there's also a devil and fallen angels that exist that deceive human beings.revelations 12:9 kjv God can be found one needs to examine the evidence with an open heart and open mind. Unsaved we will be held accountable and you live once and then the judgment. God owns your soul. When you die your body goes back to dust to dust but you will face judgment.

It's true that it might seem like a control issue and it does become a control issue with certain world class religions and specifically false religions that are violent and you will know them by their fruits as written in the Bible. There are false prophets, there are real prophets. There are false gods and there is one true living God. Well a lot of famous people do look inside themselves and they've become celebrities. They know that they're human beings but they're also very talented and where does the talent come from? If you examine inside yourself and you don't know there's a God you're blind, death and dumb. Then you don't see the trees for the forest. People don't take the time to read the Bible and pray and call out to Jesus Christ of Nazareth. The Bible tells us to prove all things and hold fast to all things that are good.

God is the God of Israel and they broke the covenant in the past also crucified the real true Messiah the Jewish Rabbi just as the great prophet Isaiah wrote many years before he came that he would be despised, rejected how the government would be on his shoulder. God is not too happy with Israel right now although he has not given up on her. They crucified killed true prophets not just false ones. And in their existence they also worshiped false gods and they turned their back on the true God they made a covenant with. God sent various prophets to warn them to turn back such as Jeremiah and others even Isaiah.
Did the above happen in the past absolutely yes. Not just with synagogues the Jewish people the Pharisee, Sadducees and other people from the past ie: The Sanhedrin. It's also happened with religious entities even atheists that have been some of the worst evildoers on the earth such as Pol Pot, Mussolini, Stalin and Hitler was essentially an atheist, religious atheist.
The Bible says seek and you will find, knock and the door will be open on to you. It's incredible some of the scientists who were atheists and realized how wrong they were. Study the Bible, read, pray and go look at people's testimonies how they were changed. A lot of atheists realized how wrong they were and it's God who gives the increase. People preach but it's God who opens up their heart to be able to know the truth and and to know he exists but if people don't take the time and they're negative to read the Bible let alone study how are they going to come to believe. God gave us evangelists to evangelize the word of God, he gave us his only begotten son who is the word of God. What you see happening on the world stage all the evil was predicted in prophecy and what we are witnessing is prophecy. The Bible tells us the devil deceives the world and people are deceived not just atheists but even religious people of many different types of religion because the god of this world blinds them to the glory of the Gospel.
