That's not fair!
April 6, 2011
"Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand." Isaiah 53:10
Isaiah 53:5a tells us, "But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities..."
It seems unfair that Jesus who did nothing wrong would have to suffer and die for us, but "That's not fair" only applies to the self centered. Jesus did not see himself and his life, he was not self centered, instead he saw us, and how helpless we are in our life. To us, our life sometimes seems unfair or harder than what we think is fair. Sometimes we are pressed on all sides, persecuted for doing right, hated for our beliefs, and laughed at for our decisions to follow and obey God, but we need only to look to Jesus and we will see that what seems to be unfair to us, actually is God working out his pleasure in all that he desires for our life. If it is pleasing to God, who cares if it seems unfair? We were created for his purpose not ours! God has never said life will be easy, he only said that he would be with us through it all. If the servant is not above the master, and If our master, Jesus, has suffered for us, and this was pleasing to God, then we should expect that we also will suffer and that this suffering might also be pleasing to God, because it is working out his greater purpose in our life.
Everyone suffers in life, but to suffer for Jesus is an honor! Consider Jesus who did nothing wrong to deserve his suffering and follow his example of obedience.
