IS BEING "DRUNK IN THE SPIRIT" BIBLICAL
HAVE YOU EVER HEARD OF SOMEONE SAYING THAT THEY WERE DRUNK IN THE SPIRIT? MAYBE YOU HAVE EVEN SAID IT YOURSELF. LET'S SEE WHAT THE GOD'S WORD SAYS ABOUT IT, IF IT DOES AT ALL.
I CAN'T FIND ANYWHERE IN THE BIBLE THAT SAYS TO BE DRUNK IN THE SPIRIT ALTHOUGH THERE ARE SOME MINISTERS THAT TEACH THIS. THEY TAKE IT FROM THE SECOND CHAPTER OF ACTS WHEN THE DISCIPLES WERE SPEAKING IN TONGUES ON THE DAY OF PENTECOST. THE MULTITUDE THAT HEARD THEM WERE SAYING THAT THEY WERE DRUNK WITH WINE BUT PETER TOLD THEM THAT THEY WERE NOT DRUNK WITH WINE AND QUOTED WHAT THE PROPHET JOEL HAD SAID IN JOEL 2:28 WHICH WAS "And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy , your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions." FROM THIS, SOME MINISTERS TEACH THAT THEY WERE DRUNK WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT. FOR SOMEONE TO USE THE THOUGHTS OF AN UNGODLY CROWD AS EVIDENCE THAT THE APOSTLES WERE DRUNK NOT ONLY TWISTS GOD'S WORD BUT I BELIEVE DISHONORS THE HOLY SPIRIT.
PAUL GOES ON TO SAY IN EPHESIANS 5:15-19 NOT TO GET DRUNK. "See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is. And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit." GOD WANTS EVERY PART OF OUR LIVES TO BE UNDER THE CONTROL OF THE HOLY SPIRIT AND THIS DOES NOT COME BY DRUNKENNESS OR ACTING LIKE IT. ACTING DRUNK AND BLAMING IT ON THE HOLY SPIRIT IS A SIN AND I FEEL SORRY FOR THOSE WHO ARE TEACHING THIS. THEY HAD BETTER READ EPHESIANS 4:30 (And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.) AND RECEIVE ALL THE BENEFITS THE HOLY SPIRIT HAS FOR THEM.
