WHAT IS THE GOSPEL?
DID YOU KNOW THAT "GOSPEL" MEANS "GOOD NEWS", ACCORDING TO VINE'S EXPOSITORY DICTIONARY. I HEARD A TEACHER ONCE SAY THAT IT WAS "NEARLY TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE NEWS". WHEN YOU REALLY THINK ABOUT JESUS TAKING ALL OF OUR SINS AND SICKNESSES UPON HIMSELF ON THE CROSS, AND DYING FOR US, SO WE CAN HAVE A CLOSE RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD, IT REALLY IS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE NEWS.
PAUL SAYS IN ROMANS 1:16 THAT IT IS THE POWER OF GOD UNTO SALVATION. (For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.) IT IS MUCH MORE THAN JUST BEING BORN-AGAIN. IT IS EVERYTHING THAT WE BELIEVERS ARE ENTITLED TO THROUGH JESUS. THERE ARE THOSE CHRISTIANS THAT ARE NOT SEEING ALL THAT JESUS HAS PROVIDED FOR THEM BY NOT UNDERSTAND, OR BELIEVING, THE GOSPEL. I BELIEVE THIS THE FAULT OF MANY CHURCHES TODAY BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT PREACHING THE TRUE GOSPEL. SOME CHRISTIANS DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT THE GOSPEL IS.
PAUL TELLS US EXACTLY WHAT THE GOSPEL IS IN 1ST CORINTHIANS 15:1-4 WHERE HE SAYS " Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures." THIS IS WHAT WE MUST BELIEVE TO BE SAVED.
BEFORE READING THE ABOVE, IF SOMEONE HAD ASKED YOU WHAT IT TOOK TO BE SAVED, WOULD YOU HAVE KNOWN WHAT TO TELL THEM? WE MUST GET THIS DOWN INTO OUR SPIRITS IF WE ARE GOING TO DO GOD'S WORK AS HE INSTRUCTED US TO DO. I DON'T WANT TO BE THE ONE WHO LETS SOMEONE GO TO HELL BECAUSE I WAS NOT PREPARED, DO YOU?
