JESUS IS RICH IN MERCY
JESUS IS RICH IN MERCY
IN STUDYING THE BIBLE LAST NIGHT, I KEPT RUNNING ACROSS THE WORD "MERCY" AND WAS SURPRISED THAT THERE WERE 59 VERSES IN THE NEW TESTAMENT THAT MENTIONED IT. I DECIDED TO LOOK IT UP IN THE 1828 WEBSTER DICTIONARY TO SEE WHAT IT SAID AND WAS AGAIN SURPRISED OF THE EXTENSIVENESS OF THE DEFINITION. JUST READ WHAT IT SAID "MERCY...That benevolence, mildness or tenderness of heart which disposes a person to overlook injuries, or to treat an offender better than he deserves; the disposition that tempers justice, and induces an injured person to forgive trespasses and injuries, and to forbear punishment, or inflict less than law or justice will warrant. In this sense, there is perhaps no word in our language precisely synonymous with mercy. That which comes nearest to it is grace. It implies benevolence, tenderness, mildness, pity or compassion, and clemency, but exercised only towards offenders. Mercy is a distinguishing attribute of the Supreme Being." DOESN'T THAT WHOLE DEFINITION SOUND JUST LIKE JESUS?
THE BIBLE SAYS IN EPHESIANS THAT HE IS "RICH" IN MERCY. "EPHESIANS 2:4-5 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved)". WE CHRISTIANS, WHOM HAVE BELIEVED AND RECEIVED THIS MERCY, UNDERSTAND WHAT WE HAVE AND WE ALL SHOULD BE PRAYING THAT THE EYES OF THE LOST WILL BE OPENED TO THE TRUTH OF THIS MERCY.
MERCY...FAITH...GRACE...ALL CONNECTED. WE ARE SAVED BY GRACE THROUGH FAITH BECAUSE OF JESUS' MERCY. WE ARE SO BLESSED AND TO REALIZE THAT THIS IS ALL FREE SOUNDS LIKE IT IS "TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE" NEWS. WELL IT IS TRUE AND ALL WE HAVE TO DO IS ACCEPT IT. IF YOU HAVEN'T YET RECEIVED YOUR GIFT, IT IS WAITING FOR YOU. IT WILL BE THE BEST GIFT YOU WILL EVER RECEIVE.
