ARE YOU PRIDEFUL
HAVE YOU EVER THOUGHT OF WHAT PRIDE MEANS? I WAS LOOKING AT IT IN A GOOD WAY AS BEING PROUD OF SOMETHING I HAD DONE. THE DICTIONARY SAYS JUST ABOUT WHAT I WAS THINKING. PRIDE...The state or feeling of being proud. Becoming or dignified sense of what is due to oneself or one's position or character; self-respect; self-esteem. Pleasure or satisfaction taken in something done by or belonging to oneself or believed to reflect credit upon oneself.
THERE IS ANOTHER SIDE TO PRIDE THAT IS NOT GOOD. I GOT THIS DEFINITION FROM THE 1828 WEBSTER DICTIONARY AND IT SAID "Inordinate self-esteem; an unreasonable conceit of one's own superiority in talents, beauty, wealth, accomplishments, rank or elevation in office, which manifests itself in lofty airs, distance, reserve, and often in contempt of others." THIS DEFINITION GOES ALONG WITH WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS. I HAD ALWAYS HEARD OF THIS FIRST SCRIPTURE (PROVERBS 16:18 Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.) I ONLY FOUND THREE VERSES IN THE NEW TESTAMENT ON THIS AND I WILL LIST THEM BELOW:
MARK 7:21-23 For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.
1ST TIMOTHY 3:6 Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.
1ST JOHN 2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
SO THE WAY I LOOK AT IT IS THAT WE CANNOT GET CARRIED AWAY WITH PRIDE. I BELIEVE WE CAN BE PROUD OF SOMETHING WE HAVE DONE WITHOUT FALLING INTO CONDEMNATION. JUST REMEMBER PROVERBS 16:18.
