THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF GOD

      THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF GOD

WHEN YOU ARE STUDYING THE BIBLE AND YOU DON'T QUITE UNDERSTAND SOMETHING, DO YOU SEARCH UNTIL YOU UNDERSTAND IT?  A LOT OF PEOPLE DON'T AND THEY MISS OUT ON MUCH OF THE MEANING OF GOD'S WORD.  WHEN JESUS WAS TEACHING ABOUT US NOT TRUSTING IN OUR OWN RIGHTEOUSNESS AND DESPISING OTHERS, HE TOLD A PARABLE ABOUT THE PHARISEE AND THE PUBLICAN.  I AM GOING TO TELL YOU WHAT A PHARISEE AND A PUBLICAN IS AND THEN HOW THEY PRAYED.  THIS IS FOUND IN LUKE 18:9-14.

PHARISEE..A member of a Jewish sect that flourished during the 1st century b.c. and 1st century a.d. and that differed from the Sadducees chiefly in its strict observance of religious ceremonies and practices, adherence to oral laws and traditions, and belief in an afterlife and the coming of a Messiah. THIS IS WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS ABOUT HIS PRAYER, "The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess."

PUBLICAN..A collector of toll or tribute. Among the Romans, a publican was a farmer of the taxes and public revenues, and the inferior officers of this class were deemed oppressive.  THIS IS WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS ABOUT HIS PRAYER, "And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner."

DO YOU SEE THE DIFFERENCE IN THEIR PRAYERS?  WE CANNOT STAND ON OUR OWN RIGHTEOUSNESS.  THIS IS WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS ABOUT OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS AND IT IS FOUND IN ISAIAH 64:6 AND SAYS "But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away."

GET INTO YOUR BIBLE AND STUDY IT.  IT IS SO INTERESTING AND WILL BLESS YOU SO.  IT WILL GIVE YOU POWER TO IMPROVE YOUR LIFE AND THOSE AROUND YOU.  IT IS UP TO YOU, PLEASE DON'T LET SOMEONE DOWN THAT NEEDS YOU.

GOD BLESS YOU ALL.
