EVENTS OF THE CRUCIFIXION
I WAS GOING TO WRITE THIS THE WEEK OF EASTER BUT DECIDED TO JUST CONTINUE CELEBRATING OUR RISEN LORD. JUST TO HONOR HIM AND WHAT HE DID FOR US, I THOUGHT I WOULD SHARE FOUR PASSAGES ABOUT HIS CRUCIFIXION AND COMMENT ON THEM. THEY ARE ALL SIMILAR BUT STILL DIFFERENT. YOU WILL SEE WHAT I MEAN AND READING THEM ALL FOUR WILL GIVE YOU A COMPLETE PICTURE.
(MATTHEW 27:50-53 Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost. And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent; And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.) MATTHEW MENTIONS AN EARTHQUAKE AND LOOK WHAT HAPPENED. THAT HAD TO BE POWERFUL.
(MARK 15:37-39 And Jesus cried with a loud voice, and gave up the ghost. And the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom. And when the centurion, which stood over against him, saw that he so cried out, and gave up the ghost, he said, Truly this man was the Son of God.) THE VEIL OF THE TEMPLE WAS TORN FROM THE TOP TO THE BOTTOM. THE VEIL WAS ABOUT 60 FT. HIGH, 30 FT. WIDE AND 4 IN. THICK SO IT HAD TO BE GOD THAT DID THIS. NO HUMAN COULD HAVE DONE THIS.
(LUKE 23:44-46 And it was about the sixth hour, and there was a darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour. And the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was rent in the midst. And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost.) LUKE SAYS THAT THE SUN WAS DARK FROM NOON UNTIL 3 PM WHEN JESUS DIED. IT IS A BLESSING TO BE ABLE TO SIT IN SILENCE FOR THOSE THREE HOURS TO BE WITH HIM IN SPIRIT AND PRAISE AND THANK HIM FOR WHAT HE HAS DONE. WHAT HE DID WAS PURE LOVE.
(JOHN 20:26-30 When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son! Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home. After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst. Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a spunge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth. When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.) JOHN SEEMS TO BE THINKING OF MARY AT THIS TIME AND ALSO MENTIONS THE SCRIPTURES BEING FULFILLED.
LIKE I SAID, THEY ARE SIMILAR BUT A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT IN THE THINGS THEY BRING UP. WHEN READING THE ACCOUNTS FROM ALL FOUR WE GET A BETTER PICTURE OF WHAT ALL WENT ON. DOING THIS REALLY OPENS UP THE SCRIPTURE TO US AND LETS US FELLOWSHIP WITH JESUS.
