I AM AN 80 YEAR OLD MALE, BORN AGAIN, CHRISTIAN WITH A LOVE FOR JESUS. I DO NOT GET OUT MUCH ANYMORE BUT FIND THAT TELLING PEOPLE ABOUT THE LOVE JESUS HAS FOR THEM IS NOT ONLY WHAT WE ARE SUPPOSED TO DO BUT SOMETHING THAT THE WORLD NEEDS.

THE REAL LORD'S PRAYER BY DAVID MCMILLEN

                                        THE REAL LORD'S PRAYER

WHEN I WROTE ABOUT THE LORD'S PRAYER BEFORE, I PROBABLY DIDN'T EXPLAIN WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT VERY WELL, BECAUSE OF SOME OF THE REMARKS I RECEIVED, SO I DECIDED TO TRY AGAIN.  BELOW IS WHAT I GET OUT OF READING WHAT IS CALLED "THE LORD'S PRAYER".

HOW MANY TIMES HAVE YOU SAID IT AND DIDN'T EVEN THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU WERE SAYING BECAUSE YOU HAD IT MEMORIZED.  I DON'T BELIEVE THAT IS A TRUE PRAYER TO GOD.  I CAN REMEMBER SAYING THIS PRAYER EVERY DAY IN SCHOOL.  I WISH THE KIDS COULD HAVE SOME KIND OF PRAYER IN THEIR SCHOOLS NOW.  HOWEVER, I DON'T BELIEVE THIS WILL EVER HAPPEN. GETTING BACK TO THE PRAYER, I DON'T BELIEVE IT WAS EVER INTENDED TO BE A PRAYER THAT WE SAID WORD FOR WORD AS A PRAYER TO GOD.  TO ME IT SEEMS TO BE JUST A MODEL PRAYER TO GUIDE US INTO THE DIFFERENT PARTS OF PRAYER.

BEFORE WE GET STARTED, LET'S LOOK AT A FEW OF THE THINGS JESUS TELLS US BEFORE HE GIVES HIS EXAMPLE AND YOU WILL SEE WHAT I MEAN.  FIRST HE SAYS " when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do ."   LIKE I SAID, I DON'T BELIEVE IT WAS MEANT TO BE QUOTED OVER AND OVER AGAIN. THAT WOULD BE REPETITIOUS. THEN HE SAYS " After this manner therefore pray ye "   RIGHT BEFORE HE GIVES HIS EXAMPLE.    TO ME THAT MEANS SAY A PRAYER LIKE THIS, NOT NECESSARILY QUOTING THESE WORDS OVER AND OVER AGAIN.  I BELIEVE HE WANTS US TO PRAY FROM OUR HEART AND NOT JUST WHAT HE TELLS US TO PRAY.

NOW LET'S LOOK AT WHAT IS CALLED "THE LORD'S PRAYER" FOR A MINUTE. " Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. "  (HALLOWED MEANS TO REGARD AS HOLY AND SACRED AND WHEN WE PRAY WE SHOULD ALWAYS REMEMBER THIS.)   " Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. "  (WE NEED TO ASK FOR HIS WILL TO BE DONE IN OUR LIVES HERE ON EARTH)   " Give us this day our daily bread. "  (WE ARE TO ASK FOR HIM TO PROVIDE FOR US.) " And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. "  (WE ARE TO ASK FOR FORGIVENESS AND FORGIVE OTHERS)  " And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil "  (WE ARE TO DEPEND ON HIM TO KEEP US FROM TEMPTATION AND DELIVER US FROM EVIL)  " For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. "  (WE NEED TO ACKNOWLEDGE HIS POWER AND GIVE HIM THE GLORY FOR EVERYTHING).  TO ME, THIS IS WHAT I BELIEVE HE WAS TRYING TO TELL US TO DO BECAUSE HE SAID TO PRAY AFTER THIS MANNER.

LET'S LOOK AT THE REAL LORD'S PRAYER. IT IS FOUND IN JOHN 17. IT IS A BEAUTIFUL PRAYER.  I KNOW IT IS A LITTLE LONG BUT WELL WORTH READING SO I WILL COPY IT HERE.  "Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee: As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him. And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do. And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was. I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word. Now they have known that all things whatsoever thou hast given me are of thee. For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me. I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine. And all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them. And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are. While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled. And now come I to thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves. I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil. They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world. And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth". LET ME BREAK IN RIGHT HERE. UP UNTIL THIS POINT IN HIS PRAYER, HE WAS PRAYING FOR HIS DISCIPLES.  NOW LET'S LOOK HOW HE FINISHES HIS PRAYER.

"Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; (NOW HE IS TALKING ABOUT YOU AND ME BECAUSE WE DO BELIEVE THROUGH THEIR WRITINGS) That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me. Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world. O righteous Father, the world hath not known thee: but I have known thee, and these have known that thou hast sent me. And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them."

NOW THAT IS A BEAUTIFUL PRAYER AND I THINK THE BEST PART OF IT IS THE LAST PART.  HE IS PRAYING FOR US BECAUSE WE DO BELIEVE ON JESUS BY FAITH, AND FAITH COMES FROM HEARING, AND WE ARE HEARING ABOUT JESUS THROUGH THE WORDS OF HIS DISCIPLES.  I HOPE I HAVE EXPLAINED IT A LITTLE BETTER THIS TIME  AND YOU ENJOYED THIS PRAYER AS MUCH AS I HAVE.  I BELIEVE THIS IS THE REAL LORD'S PRAYER.

GOD BLESS YOU ALL.
