"THE PROMISE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT" BY DAVID MCMILLEN
DO YOU KNOW WHAT THE BIBLE IS TALKING ABOUT WHEN IT TALKS ABOUT THE "PROMISE OF THE FATHER"? THERE ARE SO MANY PROMISES IN THE BIBLE AND SOME PEOPLE JUST SKIP OVER THIS ONE. THIS PROMISE I AM WRITING ABOUT IS THE HOLY SPIRIT. BELOW ARE THREE VERSES ON THIS.
LUKE 24:49 And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.
ACTS 1:4 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.
ACTS 2:33 Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.
A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THIS BECAUSE THESE VERSES ARE TALKING ABOUT JESUS' DISCIPLES NOT LEAVING JERUSALEM UNTIL THEY RECEIVE THE HOLY SPIRIT. SINCE THESE DISCIPLES EVIDENTLY WERE BELIEVERS AND WERE BAPTIZED, WHY WERE THEY NOT BAPTIZED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT ALREADY? ACTS 1:5 SAYS " For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence."
SOME TEACH THAT WE WERE BAPTIZED IN THE NAME OF THE HOLY SPIRIT WHEN WE WERE BAPTIZED BUT THERE IS A SEPARATE BAPTISM WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT WHERE YOU RECEIVER A PRAYER LANGUAGE OR GROANING'S IN THE SPIRIT. I WILL LEAVE IT UP TO YOU AS TO WHAT YOU BELIEVE ABOUT THIS. I HAVE A PRAYER LANGUAGE AND USE IT WHEN I DON'T KNOW HOW TO PRAY. ROMANS 8:26 HAS A GOOD EXPLANATION ABOUT THIS WHICH IS "Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered."
SPEAK IN TONGUES OR DON'T SPEAK IN TONGUES, THAT IS BETWEEN YOU AND THE HOLY SPIRIT. HE TELLS US TO ASK, SO ASK HIM WHAT YOU SHOULD DO. HE WILL TELL YOU BUT WHAT EVER HE DOES TELL YOU, DO IT WHETHER YOU AGREE WITH IT OR NOT. HE IS NEVER WRONG.
