About
I AM AN 80 YEAR OLD MALE, BORN AGAIN, CHRISTIAN WITH A LOVE FOR JESUS. I DO NOT GET OUT MUCH ANYMORE BUT FIND THAT TELLING PEOPLE ABOUT THE LOVE JESUS HAS FOR THEM IS NOT ONLY WHAT WE ARE SUPPOSED TO DO BUT SOMETHING THAT THE WORLD NEEDS.

"THE REAL LORD'S PRAYER" BY DAVID MCMILLEN
IT DOESN'T MATTER HOW MANY TIMES I TRY TO EXPLAIN THAT "THE LORD'S PRAYER", AS STATED IN THE BIBLE, IS JUST SHOWING US HOW TO PRAY AND NOT REALLY A PRAYER TO BE PRAYED OVER AND OVER AGAIN, I ALWAYS GET SLAMMED ABOUT FOR IT. ALL I AM TRYING TO DO IS TO GET OVER A POINT THAT I BELIEVE IS TRUE AND THE WORD CONFIRMS. I TRY TO EXPLAIN WITH SCRIPTURE AND BELIEVE IT SHOWS THIS FACT. HOW MANY TIMES DO YOU THINK YOU HAVE SAID IT? PROBABLY THOUSANDS, IF YOU ARE MY AGE. YOU WILL NOTICE I DIDN'T SAY PRAYED IT BECAUSE WE HAVE SAID IT SO MANY TIMES IT IS JUST SOMETHING WE ARE QUOTING FROM MEMORY AND NOT REALLY PRAYING. LET'S TAKE A LOOK AT WHAT THE BIBLE REALLY SAYS ABOUT THIS "LORD'S PRAYER".
I DON'T BELIEVE THIS WAS EVER INTENDED TO BE PRAYED WORD FOR WORD. IT IS JUST "A" WAY TO PRAY, NOT "THE" WAY TO PRAY. IT IS A GUIDE INTO THE DIFFERENT PARTS OF PRAYER.
IN MATTHEW 6:1-8, JESUS IS TELLING HIS DISCIPLES ABOUT PRAYING AND TELLING THEM NOT TO HAVE LONG PRAYERS FOR EVERYONE TO SEE AND HEAR LIKE THE HYPOCRITES, BUT GET BY YOURSELF AND JUST TALK TO GOD IN SECRET. THEN HE GIVES THEM A SAMPLE OF HOW TO PRAY STARTING IN VERSE 9 AND HE SAYS "After this manner therefore pray ye." THE WORD "MANNER" MEANS "A WAY OF DOING", NOT "THE WAY OF DOING". CAN YOU SEE THE DIFFERENCE? ANYWAY, THERE IS NOTHING WRONG IN QUOTING IT WHENEVER YOU WANT TO BUT MY REAL THOUGHT IN THIS MESSAGE IS ABOUT THE "REAL" LORD'S PRAYER. IT IS FOUND IN JOHN 17 AND IT IS BEAUTIFUL.
LET'S TAKE A LOOK AT SOME OF THE THINGS IT BRINGS OUT AND REMEMBER THIS IS JESUS TALKING TO GOD. IF YOU HAVE NEVER READ JOHN 17, YOU ARE MISSING OUT ON A BLESSING. FOR THE FIRST 19 VERSES HE IS PRAYING FOR HIS DISCIPLES BUT IN THE 20TH VERSE, HE STARTS PRAYING FOR US WHO ARE BORN AGAIN. JUST READS BELOW AND SEE HOW PRECIOUS THIS PRAYER IS FOR US.
Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; (WE DO BELIEVE ON JESUS THROUGH THE WORDS HIS DISCIPLES HAVE WRITTEN AND ALSO THROUGH PAUL.) That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me. Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world. O righteous Father, the world hath not known thee: but I have known thee, and these have known that thou hast sent me. And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them.
TO ME, THIS IS THE "REAL" LORD'S PRAYER. WE ARE ONE WITH HIM AND HE LOVES US. DID YOU SEE "THAT THEY ALL MAY BE AS ONE". THIS IS WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT THE LAST TIME I WROTE ABOUT THIS AS WE ALL BEING ONE IN THE BODY OF CHRIST. LET'S SHOW HIM THAT LOVE BACK BY TELLING EVERYONE WE CAN ABOUT HIM.
GOD BLESS YOU ALL.
