"ARE YOU A CHEERFUL GIVER?" BY DAVID MCMILLEN
HAVE YOU SEEN PEOPLE WHO GAVE TO THE CHURCH OR TO THE POOR BUT HAVE TO LET YOU KNOW JUST HOW MUCH THEY GAVE? THEY EVIDENTLY DON'T HAVE THE RIGHT MOTIVATION FOR GIVING. IN THE FIRST 4 VERSES OF MATTHEW 6, JESUS HAS A LOT TO SAY ABOUT GIVING. "Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven. Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth: That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly." JESUS SAYS THESE PEOPLE ARE HYPOCRITES.
PAUL PUTS IN ANOTHER WAY IN 1ST CORINTHIANS 13:3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing. THERE ARE CHRISTIANS WHO GIVE FAITHFULLY AND NEVER SEE THE HUNDREDFOLD RETURN THAT GOD PROMISES BECAUSE THEIR MOTIVATIONS ARE WRONG. PAUL CONTINUES TALKING ABOUT GIVING IN 2ND CORINTHIANS 9:7 Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. ARE YOU A CHEERFUL GIVER?
GIVING IN A MANNER IN WHICH YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE RECOGNITION FOR YOUR GIFTS WILL GUARANTEE THAT YOUR MOTIVES ARE RIGHT AND WILL GRANT YOU THE TRUE JOY THAT COMES THROUGH SELFLESS GIVING. RECEIVE A BLESSING BY GIVING A BLESSING TO SOMEONE ELSE.
