"THE REASON JESUS MARVELED" BY DAVID MCMILLEN
DO YOU KNOW WHAT THE WORD "MARVEL" MEANS? I AM GOING TO PUT THE DEFINITION HERE. MARVEL "Strong surprise; astonishment". DO YOU KNOW WHAT MADE JESUS MARVEL?
THERE ARE ONLY TWO TIMES IT IS MENTION IN THE BIBLE WHERE HE MARVELED AT SOMETHING. ONE WAS AT THE CENTURION'S FAITH IN MATTHEW 8:5-10 WHICH SAYS "And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion, beseeching him, And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented. And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him. The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed. For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it. When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel." WE SHOULD ALL PRAY THAT OUR FAITH IS AS STRONG AS THE CENTURION'S FAITH WAS.
THE OTHER TIME JESUS MARVELED AT SOMETHING WAS WHEN HE WENT INTO HIS OWN COUNTRY WHERE HE HAD GROWN UP AND THE PEOPLE KNEW HIM AND WERE OFFENDED BECAUSE HE WAS TEACHING IN THE SYNAGOGUE. IT IS IN MARK 6:2-6 WHICH SAYS " And when the sabbath day was come, He began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing Him were astonished, saying, From whence hath this man these things? and what wisdom is this which is given unto Him, that even such mighty works are wrought by His hands? Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not His sisters here with us? And they were offended at Him. But Jesus, said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in His own country, and among His own kin, and in His own house. And He could there do no mighty work, save that He laid His hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them. And He marvelled because of their unbelief. And He went round about the villages, teaching." THIS IS ONE REASON THAT I KEEP SAYING THAT WE HAVE TO HAVE FAITH TO BELIEVE.
