"PRIDE GOES BEFORE DESTRUCTION" BY DAVID MCMILLEN
IN STUDYING THIS MORNING, I CAME ACROSS THE WORD "PRIDE". I WAS ALWAYS TAUGHT TO TAKE PRIDE IN THE THINGS I DID AND THERE WERE THINGS I DID THAT I NOW SEE I WENT TO EXTREMES OVER. I WILL GIVE YOU THREE DEFINITIONS OF PRIDE. THIS FIRST ONE IS WHAT WE ARE SUPPOSED TO DO BUT NOT GO OVERBOARD. IT IS "A sense of one's own proper dignity or value; self-respect." THESE NEXT TWO ARE WHAT WE ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO DO AND THEY ARE "Arrogant or disdainful conduct or treatment; haughtiness" AND "An excessively high opinion of oneself; conceit". PROVERBS 16:18 PUTS IT THIS WAY, "Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall."
SATAN IS A PRIME EXAMPLE OF TAKING "PRIDE" TOO FAR AND YOU KNOW WHAT HAPPENED TO HIM. EZEKIEL, IN CHAPTER 28:15 SAYS THIS ABOUT LUCIFER (SATAN) "Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee". ISAIAH ALSO SPEAKS OF LUCIFER IN ISAIAH 14:14 WHERE LUCIFER IS SAYING "I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High."
JESUS DIDN'T SPEAK TO HIGHLY OF "PRIDE" EITHER. IN MARK 7:21-23, HE INCLUDES "PRIDE" IN WITH A LOT OF BAD THINGS. I WILL QUOTE IT HERE "For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: All these evil things come from within, and defile the man." JOHN PUTS IT ANOTHER WAY IN 1ST JOHN 2:16 "For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world."
SO, TAKE PRIDE IN THE THINGS YOU DO BUT DO NOT GET CARRIED AWAY. JUST REMEMBER WHAT PROVERBS 16:18 SAYS "Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall".
