"THE PROMISES OF GOD" BY DAVID MCMILLEN
DO YOU BELIEVE IN ALL OF GOD'S PROMISES? THE DICTIONARY SAYS THAT A PROMISE IS "A declaration assuring that one will or will not do something; a vow." I ALSO LOOKED UP THE WORD VOW AND IT SAID "An earnest promise to perform a specified act." 2ND CORINTHIANS 1:20 SAYS "For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us." NOW FROM THAT, IT LOOKS LIKE WE ALL SHOULD BELIEVE IN THESE PROMISES.
HERE IS ANOTHER REASON WE SHOULD BELIEVE. IN TITUS 1:2 IT SAYS "In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began." DO YOU KNOW WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF GOD DID LIE? THE WHOLE UNIVERSE WOULD FALL APART. LOOK WHAT IT SAYS IN HEBREWS 1:3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high. SINCE HE HAS NEVER LIED AND NEVER WILL, WE CAN BELIEVE THAT HE WILL KEEP ALL OF HIS PROMISES.
WHEN WE PROMISE OR GIVE AN OATH THAT WE WILL DO SOMETHING, WE SOMETIMES GO BACK ON OUR WORD. HOWEVER, WHEN GOD CONFIRMS AN OATH, HE SWEARS BY TWO IMMUTABLE THINGS. LOOK WHAT IT SAYS IN HEBREWS 6:16-19 " For men verily swear by the greater: and an oath for confirmation is to them an end of all strife. Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath: That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us: Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil." HOW IS THAT FOR CONFIRMING HIS WORD TO US, THE HEIRS OF HIS PROMISES WHICH WE ARE.
SO, BELIEVE IN HIS PROMISES. CLAIM THEM AND HAVE FAITH THAT HE WILL DO WHAT HE SAYS. WE CAN'T ASK FOR ANYTHING BETTER THAN THAT. HE LOVES US AND WANTS THE BEST FOR US, HIS CHILDREN.
