MERCY, THE REAL MEANING

I WAS READING MATTHEW 9:9-13 WHERE IT SAYS "(9) And as Jesus passed forth from thence, he saw a man, named Matthew, sitting at the receipt of custom: and he saith unto him, Follow me. And he arose, and followed him. (10) And it came to pass, as Jesus sat at meat in the house, behold, many publicans and sinners came and sat down with him and his disciples. (11) And when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto his disciples, Why eateth your Master with publicans and sinners? (12) But when Jesus heard that, he said unto them, They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick.  (13) But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance."

YOU WILL NOTICE IN VERSE 13, JESUS WAS DEFENDING HIS EATING WITH MATTHEW. THIS WAS AFTER JESUS ASK MATTHEW TO FOLLOW HIM.  THE FACT THAT MATTHEW WAS A TAX COLLECTOR AND JESUS WAS EATING WITH HIM WAS THE REASON THE PHARISEES HAD ASK THAT QUESTION .

I LOOKED UP THE WORD MERCY IN THE 1828 EDITION OF WEBSTER'S AMERICAN DICTIONARY OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE AND AND REALLY LIKED THE DEFINITIONS.  MERCY - "That benevolence, mildness or tenderness of heart which disposes a person to overlook injuries, or to treat an offender better than he deserves; the disposition that tempers justice, and induces an injured person to forgive trespasses and injuries, and to forbear punishment, or inflict less than law or justice will warrant." IT ALSO SAID "The disposition that tempers justice, and induces an injured person to forgive trespasses and injuries, and to forbear punishment, or inflict less than law or justice will warrant." DOESN'T THIS SOUND JUST LIKE JESUS?

EPHESIANS 2:4 SAYS "But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us."  IT GOES ON TO SAY IN VERSE 5 "Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, by grace ye are saved."  MERCY, GRACE, AND FAITH ARE ALL CONNECTED.  WE ARE SAVED BY GRACE THROUGH FAITH BECAUSE OF GOD'S MERCY.  (EPHESIANS 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God.)

WE ARE A BLESSED PEOPLE AND THE GOOD THING ABOUT ALL OF THIS IS THAT SALVATION IS FREE.  IT IS A GIFT AND ALL WE HAVE TO DO IS ACCEPT IT.  IF YOU HAVEN'T RECEIVED YOUR GIFT, IT IS WAITING FOR YOU.  IT WILL BE THE BEST GIFT YOU WILL EVER RECEIVE.  PLEASE TAKE IT BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE.

GOD BLESS YOU ALL.
