WHAT IS THE POWER OF GOD?
WHAT DOES THE WORD "GOSPEL" MEAN? WHEN YOU TELL SOMEONE SOMETHING AND SAY "THAT IS THE GOSPEL TRUTH", THIS IS ONE MEANING OF THE WORD. (Gospel: Something regarded as true and implicitly believed.) WHEN YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT THE "GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST", TWO DEFINITIONS ARE 1. The teachings of Jesus and the apostles; the Christian revelation. AND 2. The story of Christ's life and teachings, especially as contained in the first four books of the New Testament, namely Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. DON'T DWELL ON THESE TWO DEFINITIONS.
WE NEED TO SEE WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS ABOUT THE "GOSPEL"? WHEN YOU LOOK AT THE NUMBER 2 DEFINITION ABOVE, THE FIRST FOUR BOOKS OF THE NEW TESTAMENT ARE CALLED THE GOSPELS BUT THAT IS ABOUT AS FAR AS THAT NUMBER 2 DEFINITION GOES. IT SAYS NOTHING ABOUT THE TRUE GOSPEL.
THE GOSPEL IS NOT ABOUT THE STORY OF JESUS' LIFE, IT IS THE STORY ABOUT HIS DEATH. THE GOSPEL WAS GIVEN TO PAUL AS HE TELLS US IN 1ST CORINTHIANS 15:1-4 WHERE HE SAYS "Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures." THIS IS WHAT WE MUST BELIEVE TO BE SAVED.
TO SHOW YOU HOW IMPORTANT THE GOSPEL IS, PAUL TELLS US IN ROMANS 1:16 WHERE HE SAYS "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. THIS GOSPEL COULD NOT HAVE BEEN TAUGHT BY JESUS AND HIS DISCIPLES BECAUSE JESUS HAD TO DIE FIRST.
SO, ALL OF YOU OUT THERE, BE SURE YOU UNDERSTAND AND BELIEVE THE GOSPEL ON ALL PARTS. IF YOU DON'T, YOU ARE NOT YET BORN AGAIN. JUST BE SURE BECAUSE YOUR ETERNAL LIFE DEPENDS ON IT.
