O DEATH, WHERE IS THY STING?
BELOW IS A POWERFUL SCRIPTURE ON TWO PARTS. YOU NOTICE HE "GAVE UP THE GHOST" AS NO ONE COULD TAKE HIS LIFE FROM HIM. THE NEXT IS THAT THE VEIL OF THE TEMPLE WAS RENT FROM TOP TO BOTTOM. NO MAN COULD DO THIS. READ AND ENJOY.
MATTHEW 27:50-53 Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost. And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent; And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.
WHAT ABOUT THE GRAVES BEING OPENED? WHAT I FIND AMAZING IS THAT WITH SUCH A DRAMATIC EVENT, MATTHEW WAS THE ONLY ONE WHO WROTE ABOUT IT. AS YOU KNOW, MOST OF THE GRAVES BACK THEN WERE CAVES WITH LARGE STONES ROLLED IN FROM OF THEM LIKE JESUS' GRAVE. THE EARTHQUAKE WAS SO GREAT THAT IT MUST HAVE ROLLED AWAY THE STONES OF MANY GRAVES AND SOME OF THE SAINTS BURIED IN THEM ROSE FROM THE DEAD. CAN YOU IMAGINE THAT THERE WAS SO MUCH POWER AT THE DEATH OF JESUS THAT DEATH HAD NO MORE POWER OR STING OVER THESE PEOPLE?
I HAVE OFTEN WONDERED WHEN LIFE CAME BACK INTO THESE SAINTS, HOW LONG DID IT LAST? IF THEY WERE NOT CAUGHT UP TO GOD WHEN JESUS DIED, THEY WOULD HAVE HAD TO DIE AGAIN JUST LIKE LAZARUS, JAIRUS' DAUGHTER AND THE WIDOW'S SON. LIFE JUST HAD TO COME BACK INTO THEIR BODIES AS THEY COULDN'T HAVE BEEN RESURRECTED FROM THE DEAD. THE REASON I SAY THIS IS BECAUSE OF WHAT IT SAYS IN 1ST CORINTHIANS 15:20 "But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept." AND ACTS 26:23 "That Christ should suffer, and that he should be the first that should rise from the dead, and should shew light unto the people, and to the Gentiles." THIS IS JUST WHAT I BELIEVE ACCORDING TO GOD'S WORD.
CAN YOU IMAGINE THE IMPACT IT MUST HAVE HAD ON THE PEOPLE THAT SAW THESE SAINTS? I WONDER IF THEY WENT BACK TO THEIR FAMILIES AND WHAT THEY MUST HAVE TOLD THEM. I JUST FOUND THIS VERY INTERESTING AND HOPE YOU ALL DID ALSO.
