DO YOU EVER WONDER?
I OFTEN WONDERED WHY THE JEWISH PEOPLE, WITH ALL OF THE PROPHECIES IN THE OLD TESTAMENT, DIDN'T SEE THAT THEY WERE TALKING ABOUT JESUS, THE MESSIAH. SOME PEOPLE DON'T REALIZE THAT THE PSALMS WERE WRITTEN BY SEVERAL DIFFERENT WRITERS. THEY WERE WRITTEN DURING A PERIOD OF ABOUT A THOUSAND YEARS FROM THE TIME OF MOSES, ABOUT 1,500 B.C., TO THE TIME OF EZRA, ABOUT 45O B.C., MOSES ACTUALLY WROTE ONE OF THE PSALMS, PSALM 90. IT IS BELIEVED THAT EZRA WAS THE ONE THAT BROUGHT ALL THE PSALMS TOGETHER INTO ONE BOOK. THESE PROPHECIES WERE MADE HUNDREDS OF YEARS BEFORE JESUS WAS EVEN BORN. I HAVE LISTED A FEW OF THEM BELOW FOR YOUR ENJOYMENT.
THE MESSIAH WOULD BE BORN OF A VIRGIN
PROPHECY...ISAIAH 7:14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
FULFILLMENT...MATTHEW 1:22-23 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins.
THE MESSIAH WOULD BE CALLED IMMANUEL
PROPHECY...ISAIAH 7:14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
FULFILLMENT...MATTHEW 1:23 Behold , a virgin shall be with child , and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
A MESSENGER WOULD PREPARE THE WAY FOR THE MESSIAH
PROPHECY...ISAIAH 40:3-5 The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make straight in the desert a highway for our God. Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain: And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.
FULFILLMENT...LUKE 3:3-6 And he came into all the country about Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins; As it is written in the book of the words of Esaias the prophet, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight. Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low; and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough ways shall be made smooth; And all flesh shall see the salvation of God.
THE MESSIAH WOULD BE DECLARED THE SON OF GOD
PROPHECY...PSALMS 2:7 I will declare the decree: the Lord hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.
FULFILLMENT...MATTHEW 3:16-17 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
THE MESSIAH WOULD BE BETRAYED
PROPHECY...ZECHARIAH 11:12-13 And I said unto them, If ye think good, give me my price; and if not, forbear. So they weighed for my price thirty pieces of silver. And the Lord said unto me, Cast it unto the potter: a goodly price that I was prised at of them. And I took the thirty pieces of silver, and cast them to the potter in the house of the Lord.
FULFILLMENT...LUKE 22:47-48 And while he yet spake, behold a multitude, and he that was called Judas, one of the twelve, went before them, and drew near unto Jesus to kiss him. But Jesus said unto him, Judas, betrayest thou the Son of man with a kiss?
THE MESSIAH'S HANDS AND FEET WOULD BE PIERCED
PROPHECY...PSALMS 22:16 For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet.
FULFILLMENT...JOHN 20:25-27 The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe. And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you. Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.
THE MESSIAH WOULD RESURRECT FROM THE DEAD
PROPHECY...PSALMS 49:15 But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave: for he shall receive me. Selah.
FULFILLMENT...MATTHEW 28:6-7 He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you.
THE MESSIAH WOULD ASCEND TO HEAVEN
PROPHECY...PSALMS 24:9 Lift up your heads, O ye gates; even lift them up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in.
FULFILLMENT...MARK 16:19 So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.
