WHY WE SHOULD WATCH OUR WORDS
DO YOU CURSE? DO YOU THINK IT IS A SIN TO DO THIS? SOME PEOPLE THINK THAT CURSING IS JUST SAYING BAD WORDS LIKE THE "F" WORD. THE DICTIONARY SAYS THAT TO CURSE MEANS TO "wish that misfortune, evil, doom, etc., befalls a person" THAT IS A BIG DIFFERENCE FROM JUST SAYING BAD WORDS. THE BIBLE HAS A LOT TO SAY ABOUT CURSING AND I WANT TO TAKE A LOOK AT A FEW THINGS IT BRINGS UP.
PAUL WROTE IN EPHESIANS 4:29 TO "Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers."
PETER PUTS IT A LITTLE DIFFERENT WHEN HE SAYS IN 1ST PETER 3:10 "For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile".
NOW JAMES PUTS A WHOLE NEW LIGHT ON THE SUBJECT WHEN HE MAKES SOME COMPARISONS AND PUTS IT REALLY CLEAR SO WE CAN UNDERSTAND IT. HE SAYS IN JAMES 3:9-12 "Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God. Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be. Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter? Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh.
JAMES MAKES IT CLEAR THAT OUR LIVES SHOULD NOT BE CHARACTERIZED BY EVIL SPEECH. WHAT WHICH COMES OUT OF OUR MOUTHS IS WHAT FILLS OUR HEARTS. WHEN OUR HEARTS ARE FILLED WITH GOD'S LOVE, PRAISE FOR HIM AND LOVE FOR OTHERS WILL COME FORTH. JESUS SAYS IN LUKE 6:45 THAT "A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh."
NOW I ASK YOU AGAIN, DO YOU BELIEVE IT IS A SIN TO CURSE? WELL, FROM WHAT I READ IN GOD'S WORD, I WOULD SAY YES. SIN IS A CONDITION OF THE MIND AS PAUL PUTS IT IN ROMANS 7:22-23 WHEN HE SAYS "For I delight in the law of God after the inward man: But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members."
THIS IS WHY WE HAVE TO RENEW OUR MINDS AS IT SAYS IN ROMANS 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
JUST REMEMBER THAT SIN STARTS IN THE MIND SO KEEP YOUR MIND ON JESUS AND SATAN WILL HAVE A HARD TIME TRYING TO TEMPT YOU. AND, NEVER SAY IT IS GOD TEMPTING YOU BECAUSE IT SAYS IN JAMES 1:13-14 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man : But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed .
