THESE ARE QUESTIONS YOU MIGHT HAVE TO ANSWER ONE DAY. I HAVE OFTEN THOUGHT OF WHAT I WOULD HAVE DONE WHEN I WAS YOUNGER IF HE ASK ME TO GO. I WILL HAVE TO ADMIT THAT I DON'T THINK I WOULD HAVE. I WAS NOT THAT STRONG IN HIS WORD AND I DIDN'T KNOW THEN WHAT I DO NOW AND I CAN SAY, WITHOUT A SHADOW OF A DOUBT, THAT, EVEN AT AGE OF 80, IF HE TOLD ME TO GO, I WOULD, BECAUSE I KNOW HE WOULD EQUIP ME WITH WHATEVER I NEEDED.

A sure sign of the error of legalism is misplaced priorities, as we see here with these Pharisees. It is not recorded in Scripture that the Pharisees marveled at the wonderful works of Jesus. The Holy Spirit is a gift (Acts 2:38). You cannot be good enough to earn the gift of the Holy Spirit, but you do have to ask. This is speaking of the baptism of the Holy Ghost, which is subsequent to the born-again experience.
