A man I know recently said this to me:
"I'm not going back to that church, because that preacher gets up there and tells the congregation what is right and what is wrong. How can he stand up there and tell me what I can and can't do? He's not perfect and I'm sure he has plenty of issues of his own. I'm not going to sit there and listen to that."
Now, I never try to hide my Christianity, but I don't go around bashing people over the head with my Bible either. Sometimes it is wise to speak and sometimes it is wise to keep your mouth closed. When the Holy Spirit nudges me to say something, it's like an itch that won't go away until I scratch it. So after a few seconds silence, my response was this:
"I don't know anything about the church you go to, but in my church, it's not 'thus sayeth Pastor so-n-so'. It's 'thus...
I am someone who observes others a lot. Not really seeing a person with my eyes (because I'm visually impaired), but more of observing people's words and actions. A few weeks ago, I heard a woman say this when asked if she believed in the afterlife:
"I think I've done more good than bad in my life. Hopefully they'll let me in." (speaking of heaven)
This was one of those situations where I could not respond, due to the circumstance, but I was not shocked to hear this reply. People who just know about God and what they hope will happen when they die often think that the good things they do in life will score them enough points to get a ticket into heaven. My question is, if being more good than bad gets us eternal life with God, WHY DID JESUS HAVE TO SUFFER THE DEATH OF THE CROSS?
Then how are we saved?...
It feels the weight of the world
Sometimes rests on my shoulders
I feel I might freeze to death
As the world keeps getting colder
They say a light shines brightest
In the darkest of places
Is anyone still looking for light?
I see apathy on so many faces
In this blog post I state many of my opinions. You have been warned.
"What? Did I read the title of this post correctly? Kelly, you're not religious?"
No I'm not. My definition of religion conflicts with my faith in Jesus Christ. To a lot of people, that last statement will make no sense. If this is the case, we might have a difference of opinion about what 'religion' is. Hate me yet? Think I'm a heretic? More importantly, do I have your attention? I hope so.
Religious people fly airplanes into buildings. Religious people think it is okay to hate their brother and say they love God. Religious people go through the motions. Religious people think they are right with God because they go to church. Religious people jump through hoops and climb an endless ladder trying to reach God, when he has his hand...
Search For Sight is a band I formed to raise funds to find cures for retinal degenerative diseases. I have retinitis pigmentosa (RP), which is an eye disease that slowly causes a person's retina to degenerate, leading to blindness. I was diagnosed about 30 years ago and was legally blind by the time I was in high school.
The music that Search For Sight plays is a mixture of folk rock and classic rock. We have 2 albums available for download from Amazon and iTunes. The first is called 'Too Many Goodbyes' and the second is titled 'See You Around'. All of the musicians and songwriters, including myself, are born again Christians. The lyrics of the songs are very laid back and focus on mostly love and relationships. I am also a member of the band Lordchain, which is a ministry minded, Christ centered project created to tell the world about Jesus. SFS was created to help fund much needed research in the field of...
