What’s Your Next Address?

Let’s say that I currently live at 1234 Anywhere Lane, Somewhere, USA . I have no plans for moving and there is nothing in the works like an offer on a new residence. If I told you that in X years from now I will be living at Y address, what would you think? Here are a few of your options: (1) "Wow, he’s smart. How does he know that?" (2) "Come on, what’s the trick?" or (3) "OK, this guy is a loony bird, and he can’t prove it anyway. Nobody can do that." The third response, I would venture to say, is the most likely. Hang on to your hat (or whatever is close by), because this actually has happened.

Amazingly, there was a person in history where a prediction like this actually came to pass. Thousands of years before he showed up at his new address, it was predicted that he would be in a major battle. He would be injured, but would emerge victorious over his enemy. Hundreds of years before he showed up at his new address, a few other things (among many) were predicted about him:

The town of his birth
The unique nature of his birth
Who his ancestors would be
How he would die

So, how could the people who predicted these things possibly have been correct? Were these folks loony birds? I had no choice regarding the town and nature (e.g. breech, other complications, etc.) of my birth, my ancestors (some wealthy ones would have been nice" just kidding!) and my [future] mode of death. How in the world could they do it? That’s the point. They could not do it, but God could. The person is, of course, Jesus, and the "predicting people" are the Old Testament prophets. Because of these and many other predictions, the Messiah had a very unique address in history. Mapquest and GoogleMaps were not needed. There was no need for an atlas. GPS was not required and there was no "recalculating." As we approach Christmas and the celebration of Jesus’ birth, let us remember that we have tremendous confidence in the reality that God intervened on our behalf. Why? God told us ahead of time what he planned to do and where he planned to do it. He sent a sinless Savior to the exact address he said he would. Now that is truly divine relocation!.

Great topic for this time of year. You have reminded me of a diatribe I used in a forum debate on Disclose TV. The Mathematical Odds of Jesus Fulfilling Prophecy "The following probabilities are taken from Peter Stoner in Science Speaks (Moody Press, 1963) to show that coincidence is ruled out by the science of probability. Stoner considers 48 prophecies and says, "we find the chance that any one man fulfilled all 48 prophecies to be 1 in 10 to the 157th power. The estimated number of electrons in the universe is around 10 to the 79th power. It should be quite evident that Jesus did not fulfill the prophecies by accident. He was who He said He was: the only way (John 14:6)." (This information was taken from the book Evidence that Demands a Verdict, by Josh McDowell.) Yes, unto us a child was born... and as you so eloquently stated... we have tremendous confidence in the reality that God intervened on our behalf. Why? God told us ahead of time what he planned to do and where he planned to do it. Merry Christmas
