3 My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation .
Tell the person how to be saved and you show them the scriptures but they are not in front of you. You even reassure them how they could know they are saved and going to heaven. And they might even some of these people come to you later and say they heard what you said and they were saved and you take them at their word. And I'm not saying this to diminish or put people down because we are to evangelize. There are churches that say 500 - 5,000 people for example were saved this month but I would question that. And I'm not putting the physical body as a church down. Salvation is a very serious thing. God's word says let not many of you desire to be "masters" because such will be judged differently than ordinary people. God does have an elect.
Preach Yes but lots of people just want in but not through the straight gate. Don't be discouraged but accept the truth. Pray for people and teach/preach. FAITH as I am reminded every know and then people. Forgive and go forward.
2 Timothy 2:15
“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”
And it's good to share the gospel. But there is this get saved and ignore everything else then it is assumed that those people are walking in the light but you don't tend to their soul. It's not easy and we try but it is a serious thing. And not to get overwhelmed with emotion but in your heart to really do what is righteous and proper before God not before yourself.
Will we be judged by our works ? If the people that could be large numbers of the damned as judgment came are rejected who cast out demons and did many wonderful works why are they rejected if they showed some commitment? I mean in a court of law that would look good to a judge or maybe even to a jury. But remember the lord Jesus Christ is both judge and jury. They weren't born again in their hearts and perhaps they were abusive, arrogant and we're still in the world. In other words they had their foot in the Kingdom of the devil and another suspect in the kingdom of God. ( Not the straight gate ) Some of these people might have been on the verge of true conversion but others might have never been true converts. Still some are drunk-in with religion but they never come to the knowledge of the truth. They despise their own soul and so their blood be upon their own heads.
What does God think about works ?
"For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; a nd then he shall reward every man according to his works." Matthew 16:27, KJV
So if we are talking about salvation look what God says about works in this scripture. God is a re warder of those who diligently seek him. You have to be born again which is the regeneration of the heart. John 3: 3
". . . I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts : and I will give unto every one of you according to your works ."
Revelation 2:23b, K JV
God searches the reins and hearts of men. You only fool yourself if you don't have ears to listen.
The people that died in Christ are their works important to God ? Look what he says in this scripture.
"And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them. " Revelation 14:13, KJV
Even if we take a look at this verse in the book of Revelation look what it's written
"And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works ."
Revelation 20:12-13, K JV
If we are talking about salvation here it is put easily to understand
God's Word says that we are saved by grace through faith in Christ Jesus and not by our own efforts or works ( Ephesians 2:8-9 ). Grace Alone. Faith Alone. Grace alone means that God loves, forgives, and saves us not because of who we are or what we do, but because of the work of Christ .
But remember faith without works is dead. Jesus said that salvation is of the Jew. James 4:22 Christ paid the debt in full. He did it not you. If it wasn't for him then John 3:16 would be void.

In the old testament people were saved in a different way. For example Isaiah was a prophet and not in the day of Christ but he wrote about him just as Moses did and still they are saved. But after that God gave us a savior. So our works are very important and faith without works is dead. Even though we are not under the law if anyone breaks the law or teaches others to break the law and they do make it into the kingdom of God they might be called the least in the Kingdom and they probably will lose some rewards. Salvation take it serious. And you might easily just pass it off. You know shrug it off your shoulders. But look at Apostle Paul the troubles he had with the Corinthians or even other groups.
Among the myriad problems in the Corinthian church were: claims of spiritual superiority over one another, suing one another in public courts, abusing the communal meal, and sexual misbehavior . Paul wrote to demand higher ethical and moral standards.
Humble yourselves before the Lord.

James says, “For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also” (James 2:26). Faith without works is a dead faith because the lack of works reveals an unchanged life or a spiritually dead heart. There are many verses that say that true saving faith will result in a transformed life, that faith is demonstrated by the works we do. How we live reveals what we believe and whether the faith we profess to have is a living faith.
But when you're being saved and when you accept the gospel you accept it by faith. It's not really a work. But you have to believe it in your heart the death burial and resurrection of the biblical Lord Jesus Christ. It's faith alone but your works are evidence of your changed life just as written above from gotquestion.org
But when we are talking work being important and God testing your works by fire if somebody were to ask you for room and board and you were poor and on the street and you told him go be blessed and leave me alone this is evil. Remember Jesus said if you do it to the least of them you have done it on to him. But your works don't save you. The blood on the cross called the atonement by Jesus Christ who lay down his life as a ransom for many is what saves you. John 3:16 2:13 pm today
You receive your salvation by hearing and believing the gospel in faith.
