2 Corinthians epistle bible study

By James J Dougherty, 2013-05-21

                                                2 Corinthians epistle bible study

Here is a bible study on the second epistle to the Corinthians which is a follow up letter following the first letter to them and continues many of the points of the first epistle and is intended to further build up the church and grow it in Christ. While this epistle can be done as a separate bible study all on its own, I strongly suggest doing the first epistle ahead of it, to get the most out of both of them. I give you a link back to the first 8 chapters of 1 Corinthians which also has a link to its second part

Epistle to the Galatians bible study

By James J Dougherty, 2013-05-22

Epistle to the Galatians bible study

Here is the epistle Paul wrote to the Galatians which both gives them encouragements and also rebukes and corrects them in where they fall short. Paul writes these letters, including Galatians and all the others, in love hoping both to build up and change the people of whom he is writing to

In chapter 1 after the salutation Paul points out and rebukes the Galatians for the false teachers who distort and change the gospel that God gave(not Paul) calling them cursed and then goes on to give a little detail about himself, his conversion and a few of his missionary experiences

(Galatians 1:1)  Paul, an apostle--not from men nor through man, but through Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised him from the dead--

(Galatians 1:2)  and all the brothers who are with me, To the churches of Galatia:

(Galatians 1:3)  Grace to...

Epistle to the Ephesians bible study

By James J Dougherty, 2013-05-22

Epistle to the Ephesians bible study

Here is the Epistle to the Ephesians written by Paul the Apostle to encourage, commend, complement, build up and also to some degree correct some of the Ephesians but also the epistle contains good advice for  us today for God gave Paul many ideas for us today to help shape and mold our lives and grow, mature and develop in our walk with Jesus, our Lord and Savior

In chapter 1, after the salutation Paul reminds us we have our redemption in Jesus and His blood, predestined for an inheritance. Paul commends the Ephesians for their faith and prays for the Ephesians that God would give them wisdom

(Ephesians 1:1)  Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, To the saints who are in Ephesus, and are faithful in Christ Jesus:

(Ephesians 1:2)  Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Epsitle to the Philippians bible study

By James J Dougherty, 2013-05-22

Epistle to the Philippians bible study

Next up is Paul and Timothy’s- it was written by both men, though mainly I suspect by Paul, from prison- epistle to the Philippians and their church. It generally is a rather happy epistle commending them for much good works, and their relationship with the Lord but also it has good advice for us nowadays too, for the bible is a timeless thing. There are many encouraging words in this epistle for people to read and be lifted up and grow in Christ with them.

In chapter one the authors assure us that God will finish the work that He started in us in Christ Jesus then they want the Philippians to be even more abounding in love and filled with the fruits of righteousness. Regardless of motivations of presenting Christ Paul is just happy that Christ is proclaimed and the gospel spread, so that people can be saved as a result although Paul would...

Epistle to the Colossians bible study

By James J Dougherty, 2013-05-22

Epistle to the Colossians bible study

This is a bible study of the epistle Paul wrote to the church at Colossae which is a very encouraging letter largely commending them on things, but there are corrections and such. There also are many things for us today too, as these epistles are timeless and contain many excellent life applications for us to go by and use in our everyday lives in our Christian walk

The first chapter of the epistle Paul after the salutation says him and those with them don’t stop praying for those in the Colossian church for he commends them on their faith in Jesus and prays for their strengthening and wisdom and to walk on a manner worthy of Christ who has delivered them from darkness (us too) for Christ wants to reconcile all to Him no matter their evil deeds then Paul speaks of his afflictions and persecutions in ministry

(Colossians 1:1)  Paul, an...

Epistles to the Thessalonians bible study

By James J Dougherty, 2013-05-23

Epistles to the Thessalonians bible study

Paul wrote these two epistles to the church at Thessalonica largely commending them for their faith and also to look forward to Jesus’ coming. These epistles then have strong end times related scriptures as a result of this, much more so than the other epistles that Paul wrote to the various churches that he visited and evangelized or even to His brothers and servants in Christ such as Timothy, Titus and Philemon, whom he wrote personal epistles to. He also gives us good words of advice for today for us to learn off of and live by.

In 1 Thessalonians 1 Paul gives thanks for the Thessalonians to God believing that they were chosen for His purposes in areas then commending them for their faith in Jesus and also being a good example to others, also for excellent reception and encourages them to wait for Jesus

(1 Thessalonians 1:1)  Paul, Silvanus, and...

Epistles to Timothy bible study

By James J Dougherty, 2013-05-23

                                    Epistles to Timothy bible study

Here is a bible study consisting of  both of Paul’s letters to Timothy, someone whom Paul regarded as a spiritual son and these letters were written to lead, guide, instruct, give directions and commands, help Timothy correct others on his own ministry and missions. There are many things also applicable to us today; indeed Paul sometimes spoke quite prophetically about the way people are today in these two epistles in different chapters

In 1 Timothy chapter 1 Paul urges Timothy to remain in Ephesus to correct and rebuke, stopping some from teaching false doctrines and teachings and goes on to say the law is good if used lawfully but reminds us it was laid down for the lawless, then Paul is thankful that Jesus appointed him to his ministry even though Paul was the foremost of sinners but received mercy as his sins were done in ignorance...

Epistles to Titus and Philemon bible study

By James J Dougherty, 2013-05-23

Epistles to Titus and Philemon bible study

Here is a bible study on the epistles to Titus, another spiritual son of Paul and also a co-laborer Philemon. These two personal epistles are for encouragement, direction, and even some correction both for the people they were written to originally but also for us to read, learn and grow in our faith in, as the bible is such a wonderful tool to help grow, strengthen and mature one’s faith in Jesus and relationship with God

In Titus chapter 1 after the salutation which speaks of Paul’s and everyone else’s hope of eternal life wants Titus to remain in Crete and appoint overseers who must be above reproach to what is left of the church there and the qualities the overseer must have. He must get the church in order rebuking and correcting all deceivers, lazy, insubordinate and other bad people to...
