Miraculous healings bible study

By James J Dougherty, 2013-04-19

Eight miraculous healings bible study

Here are eight outstanding examples of people being miraculously healed of various diseases and disabling conditions in the bible, several have excellent  additional lessons too, before, during, and after they occurred, which have things that we can apply to our lives today, too. The first example is Elisha and Naaman’s leprosy.

Elisha- Naaman being cleansed of leprosy

Here is the wonderful story of the healing of Naaman of his leprosy and the fact that Elisha would not take anything for what was really God’s gift and mercy, though Naaman did need to obey the supplied instructions (he was rather angry at first about it). The really sad part of the story was Elisha’s assistant, Gehazi’s greed at the end, looking for personal gain out of the whole situation.

(2 Kings 5:1)  Naaman, commander of the army of the king of Syria, was a great man with his master and in high favor, because by him the LORD...

I AM bible study

By James J Dougherty, 2013-04-20

                                    I AM bible study

Here is a bible study where God will say some form of I AM. These statements reveal the nature and character of God. Most of this is of Jesus but the first I AM statement is God the Father to Moses in Exodus 3, when He was preparing to send Moses to the Israelites and then the Pharaoh, for Moses was God’s chosen one to lead the children of Israel from bondage in Egypt

(Exodus 3:11)  But Moses said to God, "Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?"

(Exodus 3:12)  He said, "But I will be with you, and this shall be the sign for you, that I have sent you: when you have brought the people out of Egypt, you shall serve God on this mountain."

(Exodus 3:13)  Then Moses said to God, "If I come to the people of Israel and say to them, 'The God of your fathers has sent me to you,' and they ask me, 'What is his name?' what shall I say to them?"

psalms bible study

By James J Dougherty, 2013-04-21

Psalms bible study

I am led to share a variety of Psalms with different messages for us about God, His properties, benefits and just some good worship of Him. Here are twenty-one of them for this study of various types. I am keeping commentary between psalms to a minimum to let the psalms speak for themselves.

Psalms included here are: 8, 19, 23, 30, 33, 40, 51, 91,100,103,110,118,121,122,133,134, 136, 139,145,148, and 150

Psalm 8 is one that asks what is man that God should care so much of him, but yet God does?

(Psalm 8:1)  To the choirmaster: according to The Gittith. A Psalm of David. O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens.

(Psalm 8:2)  Out of the mouth of babies and infants, you have established strength because of your foes, to still the enemy and the avenger.

(Psalm 8:3)  When I look at your heavens, the work of your...

wisdom bible study

By James J Dougherty, 2013-04-22

Wisdom- bible study  to show that wisdom  is such an important thing for believers to seek after, for growth and maturity.

Here is the start of Solomon’s wisdom- Solomon had the Lord appear to him by a dream at night asking what he wanted and this exchange happened:

(1 Kings 3:5)  At Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night, and God said, "Ask what I shall give you."

(1 Kings 3:6)  And Solomon said, "You have shown great and steadfast love to your servant David my father, because he walked before you in faithfulness, in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart toward you. And you have kept for him this great and steadfast love and have given him a son to sit on his throne this day.

(1 Kings 3:7)  And now, O LORD my God, you have made your servant king in place of David my father, although I am but a little child. I do not know how to go out or come in.

(1 Kings 3:8)  And your servant is in the midst of...

Rapture bible study

By James J Dougherty, 2013-04-23

                                                Rapture bible study

I am led to do a bible study on the rapture, for it is something I strongly believe in, and I want people to recognize it, so they can be ready for it when it comes, which really could be any day at any time now, though only the Heavenly Father knows the exact day and time when it will happen. I want people to be able, by the mercy and grace of God to be found ready to go up in the coming rapture whenever it may occur.

There were two people in the bible who were essentially raptured, that is they were translated by God and never, ever saw death like everyone else did. The first of the two was Enoch. Here is the brief story of Enoch in Genesis chapter 5:

(Genesis 5:18)  When Jared had lived 162 years he fathered Enoch.

(Genesis 5:19)  Jared lived after he fathered Enoch 800 years and had other sons and daughters.

selfishness and selflessness

By James J Dougherty, 2013-04-24

Selfishness and selflessness

I am led to do a study and teaching on selfishness and selflessness. Selfishness is doing what is pleasing to really only oneself, doing what is right in one’s on eyes, without any regard or care as to what it might cost or that it may or may not grieve, harm, and hurt other people. Selflessness is the opposite, always putting others first in what they do. Our flesh is wholly selfish and does not care for anyone or anything other than to please its own lusts. The spirit, is totally opposite and puts others first always, no matter what it might cost.

This verse is a good definition of selfishness

(Php 2:21)  For they all seek their own interests, not those of Jesus Christ.

There has always been selfishness around, since long ago an example of which is in the judges, and this verse appears twice for added emphasis:

Judges 17:6  In those days there was no king in Israel. Everyone did what was...

signs bible study

Signs bible study

The purpose of this is to show remarkable things in the bible that God and only God could have done, largely in love, and to show that nothing is ever impossible for Him to do, absolutely nothing at all. In some times these things happens so that His will is done in a given situation. There are many situations like this in the bible, both old and new testaments and I am giving just some of them, concentrating mainly on the Old Testament signs. In the first case it was so the people would stop collaborating and spread out through the Earth. This was the tower of Babel in Genesis

(Genesis 11:1)  Now the whole earth had one language and the same words.

(Genesis 11:2)  And as people migrated from the east, they found a plain in the land of Shinar and settled there.

(Genesis 11:3)  And they said to one another, "Come, let us make bricks, and burn them thoroughly." And they had brick for stone, and bitumen for...

repentance bible study

By James J Dougherty, 2013-04-26

Repentance- a bible study

I am led to talk about repentance and to show examples of it in the bible, to show how important it is to us in these current evil days that we find ourselves living in, as much as it was in these stories and verses in the bible, which are presented as examples for everyone. First story included is of one Abimelech who had to repent of taking Abraham’s wife and return her to Abraham:

(Genesis 20:1)  From there Abraham journeyed toward the territory of the Negeb and lived between Kadesh and Shur; and he sojourned in Gerar.

(Genesis 20:2)  And Abraham said of Sarah his wife, "She is my sister." And Abimelech king of Gerar sent and took Sarah.

(Genesis 20:3)  But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night and said to him, "Behold, you are a dead man because of the woman whom you have taken, for she is a man's wife."

(Genesis 20:4)...
